Hi. I was looking at getting one of these, but 41 pages of replies scare the shit out of me - and I'm not really sure if this amp/dac is for me. I have a set of DT990s with an xDuoo TA-01, and am fairly new into the realm of audio. I mainly listen to prog metal/rock and hip hop. I like punchy low end, warm mids, slightly muted, but splashy, highs (nothing too bright that might cause fatigue), and long walks on the beach.

abusedduckYou can't walk with this DAC around the beach, it's a stationary model, not a portable one. For latter you want something like this https://www.massdrop.com/buy/calyx-audio-pat-dac-headphone-amp

abusedduckGo for the Centrance DACport (currently being dropped), a very nice portable option from the same brand.

abusedduckIt's not like we got broken units, or we had our money stolen. It was a long delay and it sucked to have to wait for a new toy longer than we had anticipated. But in the end we still got our units and they are fantastic. There's nothing to be scared of.

abusedduckUhmm....appears some didn't get the joke.
I listen to similar styles of music, and the DACmini sounds fantastic. My only disappointment stems from the fact that on the one drop I participated in, it was decided that the VarOut mod would not be free, yet it was offered for free (once a certain number of units were sold) on the drops that occurred before and after that one, AND I paid $10 more because the lowest drop point was $399 in the drop that I participated in. Oh well.

abusedduckAbusedduck.. I have a set of DT990 600ohms and to my ears the highs are a bit too harsh with the Dacmini. However, the DT990 pair well with my Little Dot MK3 which has dropped here a few times. Having said that, I mainly use the Dacmini with my other cans.
