BJorn_LuLszicIt sounded pretty good with my HD 6XX for anything in this price range.

SomeTechNoobI actually bought the CEntrance DACport HD, and I'm trying to connect it on my iPhone 6S Plus using this https://goo.gl/fgrYOh with a 10w iPad charger and still can't seem to beat the quality of my Carbo Tenore without hooking up the CEntrance DACport HD on my iPhone??

indi_guyI got my Sennheiser HD 650 today, and my Carbo Tenore beats it with or without CEntrance DACport HD. Maybe I need a better Amp or Dac for this. :(

BJorn_LuLszicThe Carbo Tenore is probably a very different sound signature than the HD 650. HD 650 isn't exciting due to the laid back treble, but after you listen to them for awhile the flaws in cheaper headphones and IEMs really do stand out.

SomeTechNoobI'm using Spotify Extreme Quality to test it. I switch the High Gain on the CEntrance DACport HD and yeah it made the Sennheiser HD 650 got more deep bass, more treble and louder but when I put on the Carbo Tenore with the High Gain, bro holy fuck you can hear the difference the Carbo Tenore is the best SH*TT, clearer and wider stage, the bass is so deep and got punchier, and not so muddy, and 2X louder. I'm not an Audiophiliac like what they call it but I can hear the night and day difference. Even without the DAC, I just play 320kbps on my Spotify (EXTREME QUALITY) with my iPhone 6S Plus 3.5mm jack and the Carbo Tenore is the best I've ever had for $50+. I'm gonna keep my HD 650 though cuz maybe I'll get a better Amp/Dac.

BJorn_LuLszicNever heard Carbo Tenore but I heard many good things about it. None of Sennheisers I have ever heard or owned have ever 'wow-ed' me. They are known for laid back not aggressive sound signature for long listening hours. The thing about Hd650 that makes it stand out is that it reflects the quality of your audio chain so better the audio chain better sound it will produce but again no 'wow' factor. Second, sound is subjective. Some are bassheads, some trebleheads. Neither will like HD650. I am not a fan of bass on Hd650 either, for me the ideal signature is bit front mids with good extension on both the ends with 3D soundstage. But HD650 is still enjoyable for me coz of the richness in mids and incredible imaging. It feels like listening on near-field speakers. BTW, I am a planar-head. :D About amp matching, being warm cans some people like it with neutral amps but some like it with warm amps. Again, subjective listening.

indi_guyMy only build right now is a CEntrance DACport HD. Switching it on High Gain my Carbo Tenore does 2 times better than my new Sennheiser HD 650. You know that feeling, when you bought that number 1 headphone you been searching, and been held as one of those legendary, and even number 1 headphone rated in head-fi.org for $350 and you're supposed to be contented and felt like HEAVEN when you hear and play music in it but NOPE.... fuck that Carbo Tenore for ruining my ears. Seriously, if I could've bought the HD 650 first then maybe I would appreciate how the Sennheiser HD 650 sounds and what it does and never gonna buy any headphones/earphones again but Carbo Tenore was too good for my ears, like you can already tell the quality, those super deep bass, clear and wider soundstage. Now I think I have been in Heaven months ago with my Carbo Tenore when I first bought it. That emotional feeling, the first time I hear those Carbo Tenore, I really appreciate how they made this little tiny earphones man. Try the Carbo Tenore, they are just $45 at Amazon and maybe you could tell me whats your impression about them. Well I'm deciding if I get a Schiit stack or buy the Jotunheim just to make my Seenheiser HD 650 sounds better than my Carbo Tenore. Or maybe Carbo Tenore will do 3X better when I plug it on a Schiit stack or a Jotunheim. idk f*ck it :D

BJorn_LuLszicYou clearly have different preference in sound. I am about to receive my R2R DAC this week to pair it with my Meier amp. Am looking for a decent OTL amp like BH Crack too. But I still goto my modded T50 for bigger soundstage and bass. These two are clearly not strong suit of Hd650 also dynamics. Both the cans compliment each other very well. Might as well upgrade to M1060 or LCD 2 and something tells me you will like the planar sound over Hd650. Give M1060($300) a try with Audeze vegan pads, you might sell the HD650.

indi_guyNot gonna spend a million bucks on another headphones or Amps/Dacs again like you did, I might get disappointed :D. I just wanna know whats a good Amp/Dac to easily drive my Sennheiser HD 650. I think Schiit Jotunheim is the best one or is it the same with a cheaper Schiit stack.

BJorn_LuLszici really did not like the pairing of the jotunheim with the hd650s. It didn't sound appealling at all. i did however really like them paired with modi multibit and magni uber. i assume the cheaper magni modi stack would sound just as good but I have no experience with that. I feel like the magni uber bumped up the bass a bit (not too crazy, pretty balanced) AND the bass was cleaner to boot.

BJorn_LuLszicGo down to your local audio shop and audition the hd650 with the good desktop amps/dacs there. The centrance dacport slim is not such a good companion for high impedance headphones like the hd650, while lower impedance headphones will sound amazing on the centrance. If there isnt any desktop amps like the schiit magni or objective amp, try the hd650 with the chord mojo.
If you still dont like the hd650 relaxed sound signature, just sell it on ebay and buy a m1060 that should be similar in sonic signature to the lcd-2's or lcd-x's(try out the lcd-2's or lcd-x's at the shop), note that the m1060 has a treble spike that affects some people and doesnt affect some people? Or you could get a ATH M50x for a v shaped sig?

Scarce97I can't buy anymore headphones, unless its wireless. I'm searching for the best wireless Headphones right now. I'm starting to like my HD 650 using High Gain on CEntrance HD. They're bad at Low Gain imo.
Yeah I've heard a lot of those M50x but I think they suck. 😂

indi_guyI'm just overreacting man. I actually love my Sennheiser HD 650 now with High Gain on my CEntrance HD but I still have to get a better Amp/Dac. I want a portable Amp/Dac though if possible. The best budget Amp/Dac I know is $200+ Schiit stack to easily drive these headphones.
What about that Tube amps like https://www.massdrop.com/buy/appj-mini2013-6j1-6p1 or https://www.massdrop.com/buy/little-dot-i-headphone-amp.

BJorn_LuLszicFirst, Jot is not good pairing as I have read(from those who have tried). These cheap tube amps require a lot more changes to sound great(as per DIY forums). I would suggest to go for Schiit Modi multibit+Magni within your budget or Audio GD-NFB 11. Both has received good response all round with the HD650. If you are looking for tube amps then BH crack and Garage 1217 Ember (or even Polaris) is cheapest that will match well.
Portables that I know have good matching power to drive them is Mojo, but that's expensive.
The best wireless cans right now might be B&W wireless P5/P7. https://twister6.com/category/headphone-review/

BJorn_LuLszicTry the oppo ha-2 se for a nice alternative to the chord mojo, very highly recommended for hard to drive headphones.
However no portable amp is going to drive the hd 650 to its full potential, so personally I recommend the O2 amp and use the centrance slim as the dac. That should reveal much more of the hd 650's potential.

Scarce97Slim doesn't have a pure Line out, not recommended as DAC. I have tried myself. Oppo has very low output, not recommended again.

SomeTechNoobPlease tell me more about how your setup sounds and works. I just bought the sennheiser HD 6xx and the CEntrance DACport slim. They will both have arrived at Christmas time. Please reply. Thanks☺️

BassermandI've upgraded since I posted these comments a couple of months ago, but in my opinion the DACport Slim is still the best sounding amp/dac combo at the $100 price range. There wasn't really that much of a noticeable sound difference between the Slim and the HD, which is a much pricier but theoretically higher-res version. I have the Schiit Fulla 2 and it simply sounds thinner than the DACport Slim when I compared them. Put the Schiit Fulla 2 + Schiit Magni 2 together and it's a different story, but it's also over 2x the price. And while I like my Schiit, I probably wouldn't say it was a 2x improvement over the DACport Slim.
The only issue I had with my DACport was the slightly high noise floor with efficient cans and IEMs(not an issue with the HD 6XX, though).
