I bought CEntrance DACport Slim mainly for use with my iPad Pro. I read description thought it will work with no problem with iOS system. But I got my DACport Slim today, tried and found it doesn't work. What a disappointment. Is there any way to make it work? firmware update or something else?

RogerLeeI think you would need a ac powered usb hub, or use the usb 3.0 Apple cck device. Either way you need to plug the unit on ac power via a usb wall wart since the iPad Pro (or any other Apple iOS device) cannot provide the required power to your Centrance unit. A usb 2.0 mini hub plugged into an AC outlet will do it. An Apple CCK also (the one that provides a lightning to usb conversion, with an added lightning plug in which you will plug a lightning cable and an AC plug charger). Hope it helps, otherwise get an Audioquest Dragonfly Red, you will thank me for proposing... the Red is powerful Enough to drive Headphones like the HD6xx with a 2v output and takes all of its required power from the iPad or iPhone, no hub necessary....

tessierpgThank you so much for your informative reply. I tried and found Centrance unit does work while an ac power be plugged. Down side is that makes the whole set not too portable. It seems like for my purpose, Audioquest Dragonfly Red would be a better choice. Too bad the wrong decision already made.... I will try to get the Red when I get some extra money...

GreatMagicianYes, I tried USB3 Camera from the beginning and found just using it is not enough. USB3 Camera + AC power is what it takes to make it work!

tessierpgThanks for the info tessierpg, regarding the audioquest dragonfly red, is there any other alternatives for a cheaper option? Or is this really the go for portable use (both mobile and laptop)? Im getting the HD6xx soon too! :)

jotanteI do not know other alternatives that can run directly from an iPad or iPhone (without an USB power Hub) with only the CCK (usb3) adapter and with this high quality sound. It is excellent as a portable DAC/Amp, it is also excellent as a DAC only (to be plugged into a higher end/more powerful desktop/home amp). The only cheaper alternative is the Dragonfly Black, but its maximum voltage of 1.2V is more suitable for lower impedance headphones, not like your HD6xx. All other portable DAC/amps require a power hub or are not as good or as powerful as the Red. This Centrance DAC / amp is probably excellent, but for use with a computer only, because with an iPad or iPhone it requires a power hub to work. the power requirement of the Centrance is higher that what the iPad or iPhone can provide. In your case, I encourage you to spend 100$ more for the Red with a maximum of 2.1V output more convenient to your hD6xx than the Black and you will thank me for the suggestion. Have fun with your 6xx!

tessierpgThanks tessierpg! Did some lurking and research and saw another comment of yours here https://www.massdrop.com/talk/2509/whats-a-good-headphone-amp-dac-combo-for-a-budget-audiophile/1870418. Will definitely consider the Red! :) I have a Mac/Windows and Android (samsung s8+) atm, hopefully they can all work together. Gonna look at a local store to see availability. Cheers!

jotanteGreat! And if one day you wish to upgrade to a higher power amp, you may still use the DFR as an excellent DAC if you use it in DAC mode... The DFR+HD6xx is an excellent combo. I now have a desktop headphone amp but I still use my DFR as a portable solution even when i’m lying on the couch with my HD6xx in the living room with my iPad or when I use my Macbook Pro. It’s great. Be happy!
