CEntranceHow is the DACport slim different than the DACport HD for the headphone amp part of the circuit? The website says the power is higher for the HD but I don't believe I see any specifications comparing the two options. How are they different? I'm more concerned about the headphone amp portion. I have sensitive IEM's like the 9 ohm SE846 and also inefficient sennheiser HD650s. I want to make sure what I'm getting is the best possible option for my all of my headphones in regards to the headphone amp portion. Are there any issues driving really low or really high impedances? Is the slim's headphone amp equally good as the HD for these needs?

spiffycheeThe two products are differentiated by output power and max sampling rate. That's the easiest way to think about it. If you need 384kHz, go with HD. If 192kHz is enough, go with Slim here. The output level is different by about 3dB, so that's not a lot to worry about. The low gain position will be ideal for IEM use, the high gain position on both units will drive your HD650s with ease, just like the original DACport Classic did.

spiffycheeCEntrance will honor the warranty and will report these if they need service. Having said that, we have improved the only issue that has ever brought the original DACport back into service -- the scratchy volume pot. By making the volume pot digital we are making sure that no DACport Slim will ever need to come back for service.

CEntranceThanks! Lastly, is the shipping estimate of September 28th accurate? Or is there a chance it will be delayed or moved up? Have these units not been produced yet?

spiffycheeWe have all units in our warehouse in Chicago. We are working to 100% inspect and test all of them (every unit is tested before it leaves our facility) and then send to Massdrop for fulfillment. I think we will beat the stated date.

CEntranceWhy do you recommend the high gain setting? I am considering this combo as an upgrade from my Fiio E10k (lower power than this amp/DAC), own the HD650 and Beyer T90, and rarely need to move the volume dial more than a third of the way round on low gain to get them to go loud enough. It seems like 'high enough volume' is not the whole story.

jwghSome people like to rock out loud. Others want it very quiet as they go to sleep. The range is huge and that's what the switch is for. HIGH is not better than LOW, it's simply louder. Use it or not -- is up to you.
