So a few months down the line with my DacPort Slim, my final report is that whilst the sound and form-factor are great, the audible hiss/noisefloor persists and still bothers me. I have returned to using my original "cigar" DacPort in preference and the Slim is now gathering dust.
I don't believe I have particularly sensitive hearing, but in a quiet room and using my FAD Sonorous VI's (and my SHure SE530s) the noise is present and noticeable to me whereas the OG DacPort does not suffer from this.
Centrance advised that this may be apparent in particularly sensitive 'phones and I suppose two of mine have balanced armature drivers, which may be a factor...I actually haven't tried my Grado's yet, but may do so.
Not sure if I will hold on to it or sell on, but although this is a small flaw, it is a disappointing one for me!

PoisonPoisonTastyfishYes, balanced armature drivers are extremely sensitive. Slim is best for over-the ear headphones. Its extra power is probably overkill for your IEMs.

CEntranceThanks for taking the time to reply. The Sonorous VI's are actually over-the-ear closed-back, but have a hybrid driver arrangement with both a balanced armature and a standard 50mm dynamic driver. Interesting though that my Original DacPort doesn't seem to have this noise signature - the difference is very apparent between the two when I switch.
Are you saying that the Slim is more powerful - even in low gain - that my DacPort original, or is there something else in the setup which would account for the difference in noise floor?

CEntranceTo add - would the DacPort HD be any different with these 'phones?

PoisonPoisonTastyfishI've previously complained about the noise floor before.
Xiaomi Piston 3 and AKG K553 are low impedance, but arent really super sensitive phones. Yet I can still hear the slight hissing in the background. My onboard audio is quieter than the Slim lol.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

SomeTechNoobSame. Also own the Piston 3. Also prefer onboard as it is quieter.

PoisonPoisonTastyfishSlim is slightly more powerful than the original DACport, we are talking a couple dB difference. That's the amount of extra noise you hear.

U-3CThe onboard audio probably doesn't have the high output level to drive big cans.

yhangusYes but rather quietly. I usually have to keep my pc sound all the way up and the Dacport all the way up, then adjust a little down for some applications.

TalDrakkanI assume you are on high gain? Because at high gain, max volume will cause ear pain for me after 2 seconds. 0_0;

U-3CYou know, I just went to check. I had it set to high gain waiting from when I initially tested before moving, but I must have moved it to low for my IEMs waiting for my k7xx to get back and forgotten about it. Now I feel really foolish.
