We've only started to acquire "smart devices" at my house, so I'm still learning about all this USB charging stuff. So, I bought an in-line meter to test all of my gear and make sure my devices were getting the power that they needed. Using that meter and doing a little reading has told me that most devices have their own charging control and "smart charge" themselves. The devices that aren't "smart" (like a bluetooth speaker) still have their own charge regulation and cutoff. I can understand needing ports that supply enough power for each device, but what is the advantage of a smart charger when my device smart charges itself? I paid $7 for a 6-port desktop charger from Amazon and it has 3 different ports for each type of device.
Having that meter also showed me that not all cables are up to high power demands (over 1A)... no mater what they cost.

JunkMailYou're correct that most devices now-a-days have their own built-in "smart charging speed". That's why the ChargeHub utilizes patent-pending SmartSpeed Technology that allows "optimal" charge for each connected device. You can use the cables that came with your device, or purchase CableLinx USB Charge & Sync Cables from the ChargeHub website: www.thechargehub.com.

NeatFreakYou did not answer "what is the advantage of a smart charger when my device smart charges itself?" I don't understand why I would need your "SmartSpeed Technology" when my devices have all the smarts they need to control the charge. Please explain if you can, TIA.
As far as I can see... the only advantage is that you don't have to worry about the amperage of each port when you go to plug in whatever device. $50 extra for that?

JunkMailThere are several advantages of SmartSpeed Technology. 1. It automatically detects which type/manufacturer of the device that is plugged in and will charge it optimally. The key word is "optimally", which is as quick as the device allows it to charge. Unlike some competition that requires a specific port to rely on quick-charging, such as the item you purchased on Amazon, you won't have any charging-rate or reliability question with the ChargeHub. 2. When you have 1 device plugged into the wall with the cable/plug that it came with, you will have the advertised "smart charge". However, when multiple devices are plugged-in to a multi-port USB charger, you may lose charging capability, but that won't happen with the ChargeHub. I would be very curious to see how many amps the 6-port charger is that you purchased from Amazon. It's most likely a USB hub that can charge a few devices at a lower amperage/rate from a laptop.

NeatFreakIt is not a hub, I paid $7 (free Prime shipping) for a desktop USB charger that plugs into a 110v socket. It has seperate ports for 2.1A, 1.0A, and 0.5A and I'm smart enough to know what port I need to use. It's rated to charge 6 different devices simultaneously and also has a power switch so it doesn't leach power when not in use. There are plenty of other devices available like this with different options for under $20. Thank you for the explanation @NeatFreak , but I still can't see spending more than $20 for a charger that will charge all USB devices... optimally.

JunkMailThanks for the explanation as well. To further conversation, most people don't understand, nor care which device draws a particular amount of amperage, so that's why the charger should be "smart" for you, as you don't want to come back to your device expecting a full charge, but to only be disappointed, especially when you have multiple devices plugged in. Do you know how many amps the charger you have is and a link to the page? That should better offer an explanation.

NeatFreak@NeatFreak, it has as many amps as those 6 ports add up to for simultaneous charging ... 7.2A , and here's the link http://www.amazon.com/SenboweTM-Family-Sized-Multiple-Smartphones-Bluetooth/dp/B00OB9MP2C/ . I realize that it doesn't have the high capacity that your charger has, but I wasn't looking for that. I did find a few others with some "smarts" and higher capacity for under $20... http://www.amazon.com/Charger-Universal-Exclusive-Technology-Charging/dp/B00OKT7R0I/ & http://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Desktop-Charger-Adapter-Technology/dp/B00MBDGVPM/.
