Picked it up from the UPS CC on the 20th and opened everything up early evening. Spent some 20 minutes with a $19 office chair as support after figuring out how to turn it on, and I can say my lower leg muscles certainly got a workout from working out how to balance on the device. For me, it felt like I had to try and force my balance to be against the unit, rather than the floor if I wanted any semblance of control. At this point as long as I don't go over a bump, I can maintain a steady speed, though I'm not sure if or when I can zip along like in that Youtube video yet.
Second day, stepped on it three different times, though this time at work. First time I had to take the first few minutes actively focusing on how I balance myself, and from then I was able to maneuver around and impress and freak a few people out. Stepping on and off from behind the unit is definitely the way to get onto and off of the device, so I am glad for that bit of advise. Still have some issues with the occasional crack/bump, but that should be better as I use it.
Third day, and I now need maybe one minute to get used to it again before I can zip around a bit. Managed to tumble off it twice, first time I was able to run off with no issue, second time I managed to roll with the fall. If I'm not paying the right amount of attention, I can't quite keep a straight line, which is basically how I ran into a wall and rolled off. Showed it off more at work, and definitely have more people interested in it. That's also how I managed to find similar models priced from as low as $400 on Ebay/AliExpress. I also found out that as I used it more, the arches of my feet were starting to ache from where I was standing, so I might have to find shoes that can support on an uneven surface. Might have to wear boots to pull that off, though. Also saw this was demoed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon by Jaime Foxx on the May 19th show, with it being sold by Phunkeeduck.com with a retail price of about $1500. Funny thing is the demo unit still had the IO on the wheels and some stickers for the website on it.
Three days experience, totaling a bit over an hour and a half of drive time, and I can say that I definitely enjoyed my time with it. At this point, I would only recommend this for adults with at least some balance, otherwise they risk quite serious injury. I'm sure kids would have an absolute blast with it, but the opportunity for injury is too high for them. This is also for those gadget lovers out there that wanted a Segway but couldn't quite justify the initial price tag. What would make this even better is if the unit was bigger such that my feet weren't hanging over both sides as I was operating it.
Also, I'll go ahead and keep/pay for this, just in case you were wondering. Too much fun on it, and I think I'll ride it at A-Kon for a bit when there isn't so much traffic to impede me. Just a bit of advertisement, if you will.
