Anything you find on Amazon that's below $500 is most likely selling a copycat product, or a refurbished unit of some sort.
Here's an example: (Link1 Below) http://www.amazon.com/Likary-Balancing-Electric-Scooter-Easier/dp/B00PGRD5H2/
Only $380 and $445, but check out the reviews (Image1 Below):

Here's an imitation version: (Link2 Below) http://www.amazon.com/Wallygadgets-Smart-Electronic-Intelligent-Monocycle/dp/B00Y846HN8/
You can see from the Amazon review photos, the paint is peeling off this unit, that doesn't happen with a Chic Smart (Image2 Below).

Here are the units sold on Amazon by the CHIC official store:
Here's the real version from Smart Chic sold on Amazon for $800-$900 each: (Link3 Below) http://www.amazon.com/SmartS1-Balancing-Electric-Scooters-Crooked/dp/B00WS6U3JC/
In regards to the pricing, the cost of the drop is $50 higher this time around versus the previous drop. If you read through the past comments, you'll see that we had some import issues (due to the size and nature of the battery), and the units need to be specially handed by the shipping/import agents (i.e. more expensive). We actually lost money on the last drop due to these unforeseen costs... (Early adopters got a great deal!)
At our lowest drop point, we're fairly confident that we're the most competitive provider of these scooters, stateside.
In regards to durability, the three that we have in the office see daily use and have taken a beating (we let visitors to our office ride them, which often results in some bumps and bruises... for the scooters). I would love if some of the participants from the last group buy chime in with their experiences!
