Right now it's on Amazon for less than 900 dollars https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016X5TC5Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I totally understand spending 1000 dollars or even 500 dollars just for a device to help you listen to music. Yes that's getting extreme for person that is not rich. I'm definitely not rich. However as others on this site have said many times everybody's ears are different and what some person might think is only worth a couple hundred dollars some other person might think is worth a 1000. This was definitely a impulse buy. I've had a lot of problems with headphone jacks going bad on my other portable amp's. I mean I'm in lotto territory 5 out of 6. Seriously 5 out of 6 of the headphone amp's I had the headphone jack went bad. I've had one of my classic iPods since 2008 never had a problem with the headphone jack. For the Sony it was the second time. I had one, sent it back they replaced it and now on the second one the headphone jack went bad. I was thinking they would not replace it for a second time (actually they did and it's on the way now). I thought of going with the Oppo HA-2 however I thought it would be fairly close to the Sony so I thought I would try and up the game. I looked around and everyone was pointing toward the Chord Mojo. So I was thinking about getting it however I did a little research and found out it was not compatible with the iPod classic. Then as I was looking around I read a couple of really nice reviews about the Shure. http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/shure-sha900-hands-on/ I agree with you I thought 1000 dollars I not can afford that for a portable amp. Then I saw Amazon had it for less than 900 dollars. It was still a lot of money. However I had a couple of old stocks that I was cashing in any way because the companies were basically going nowhere, that netted me a couple thousand dollars. So like I said it was a impulse buy. However the first day I had it I was super busy and I didn't have a chance to listen to it until almost midnight. So I hooked it up to my Sony Z5 IEM it has the best sound of any in ear I have, Unfortunately the fit isn't the best so I only listen to it at home and work. I had just recently downloaded the new recording by the all-around guitarist Nels Cline called Lovers it's more of a big band jazz record with Nels doing a lot of improvisation. I thought I'd listen to one maybe 2 songs at best before I hit the sack. After I started listening I turned around and looked at the clock it was 2 a.m. I couldn't believe it I basically listen to the whole record, yes the music was good but the SOUND WAS INCREDIBLE. It was that Wow experience that people who frequent this site are always looking for. Like I said in my earlier post I would like to see how it compares to the Mojo. The Mojo may very well be the better deal. But I say this with all honesty the Shure takes the SOUND TO ANOTHER LEVEL. Is it worth 1000? Usually the price of getting to the next level is never cheap especially for the first one getting there. For me I'm really glad I'm there.
