I suppose this is not really known to people who are new to zippo windproof lighters, but it is not a perfectly sealed device. Over a long enough period of disuse the fluid will evaporate.
****Under normal use you will never have this problem so do not even bother getting upset about false advertising or needing a big bold disclaimer.****
How fast it evaporates also depends on some factors. With mine I was under the impression that jostling around in a pocket resulted in more evaporation and be it placebo effect or not, I could have sworn strapping a snug rubberband around it made it last slightly longer when I stopped using it frequently.
Again, with regular use you will use the fluid long before it evaporates. How long it took for the fluid in mine to evaporate I do not exactly recall and it hinges on many factors.
If you are a survivalist it is also not a big deal since a lighter is not your only source of fire, and you will pack the zippo empty with several containers of fluid anyway.

OelmTHIS! These are lighters from a different era, but they are bulletproof in construction. Think of it as a windup watch, old tech, but tons of class. Atomic or even quartz watches are much more accurate, but that's not the only reason why you buy a watch.
I'm sure someone is pushing the envelope in lighter technology, Zippo isn't it, but when you whip one out for a smoke or light a girls cigarette (Mad Men), class in spades.
