1. The product: I haven't used these particular notebooks, but have used many other Clairefontaine products and have always been very happy with the quality of the paper for note-taking, etc. with fountain pens. In other words, this is very fountain pen friendly paper, with minimal feathering. I have never had a problem with bleed-through and there is minimal show-through/ghosting. I definitely feel Clairefontaine makes excellent quality paper.
2. Price:
At the lowest drop price, I have no idea if this is a good deal or not. If I have the time, I'll do my price comparisons and post that information. On first glance, it looks as though you might save about $5 (total) if you're in CONUS compared to buying these singly from an online retailer. So if you just need to "stock up" and don't mind waiting, this drop might be the way to go. Otherwise, it might be better to go with the online retailer of your choice.
3. How this drop was presented:
I wrote out a fairly long post about this (even for me), but decided against submitting it. It more examples of the "right" and the "wrong" way to do these things, in my opinion. It was also a bit of a rant.
But I'm a little disappointed in how Massdrop is doing this particular drop. My sentiment has nothing to do with the pricing or the product. Rather, it's a bit frustrating that the A4 3-pack is being launched with the attached A5 4-pack discussion. This means that most of the first page of this discussion board is completely irrelevant to this particular drop. Many people read through the discussion pages to get a sense of the product, the experience and if the price makes the purchase worthwhile.
I believe it would be much clearer to potential participants to have launch this drop completely anew. This is not a relaunch of the A5 4-pack. It's a different product. Putting it out there as Massdrop has is just confusing.
4. How this could have been presented:
Massdrop got it right when they dropped the A5 Rhodia Webnotebook 3-pack as a separate drop from the A5 Rhodia Webnotebook 5-pack. That made sense. The discussion that was specific to each drop was separate and those interested could rely on the discussion board for accurate information.
5. Closing ....
Perhaps there is/was a specific reason why the discussion board from the A5 4-pack was attached to this drop. Lots of stuff goes on behind the scenes. If so, I would be interested to hear the rationale. As it is, the way this drop was presented just seems confusing.
I'm drawing attention to this issue because I enjoy using Massdrop and feel y'all have a pretty good thing going, here. This was not intended as a rant, but as constructive criticism. I hope the powers that be take it as such.
