Just FYI. You can't use just any set of MX caps on the Novatouch. The stabilizers for the spacebar are wider, and many spacebars have multiple stems (two to three on each side) that hit the edge of the stabilizer if they are too close together. The only caps that I found that fit are the doubleshot ABS caps that are dropped here regularly. You could also file down the edge of the stems thar are hitting the stabilizer, although I haven't tried it.
KellyHYes, I have also found that not all keycap sets work well on the Novatouch. For example, if you don't want downstroke noise from the caps hitting the switch housing or plate, the lower profiles such as Cherry and Leopold are out. I've had the best results with PBT caps in OEM profile, such as the cream and green or blue and gray sets made by Ducky. The Granite set works fairly well, but I have difficulty typing on spherical tops and the flat (non-sculpted) DSA profile.
HypersphereInteresting, although I was talking specifically about the spacebar physically not working, and not about noise level that the caps make. The spacebar gets stuck and you have to force it up because the stabilizers will get stuck tightly between stems that are too close together. It's a functional issue that makes the board unusable.
I have heard other people talk about the profile making a difference, and I didn't realize it was due to noise. Interesting. I've only had OEM caps on my Novatouch since nothing else has fit so far. I prefer Cherry profile though.
I've tried the Keycool PBT Rainbow Caps, the Star-Trek themed caps from SP, and the cherry-profile PBT caps that came in grey shades, and none fit. I also got confirmation that the Varmilo PBT caps won't fit. I haven't seen the Ducky spacebar, but it's good to know those would work.
KellyHI've had pretty good luck with the spacebars from WASD Keyboards as they only have a single stabilizer post on each end.
The only issue I really have with the keyboard is the noise the stabilized keys make. The slack on the stabilizers while they are at rest means even the lightest touch to the key is enough to make a racket.
bulleoI'm not sure - I had the EC-108 Pro for about a month (and then sold it), but never tried to change the caps. I know some other keyboard brands use their own stabilizers, and not Costar, and that has caused problems. If the EC-108 Pro uses Costar stabs, I don't see why they wouldn't.
bulleoThere were two issues - one was that it would randomly insert a ; as I typed after I switched which mouse I was using. It worked after I switched back to my old mouse.
The main thing, though, is that I didn't care for the scratchy feeling that the POM stems created when you type. A lot of people don't mind it at all, but I couldn't get over it.
Otherwise, I loved it. Great sound, great weighting on the keys, high quality keycaps, fully featured.
KellyHI have no idea what you're talking about. I've used Granite and Vortex on my Novatouch with no issues. I have Sanctuary coming in a few months as well and it's all standard spacing so there isn't a reason they shouldn't be perfectly fine.
KellyHI currently have a Varmilo keycaps on my novatouch, and the spacebar seems to be fine, as long as you don't push it in completely (which causes it to get stuck.
