Got this knife from Massdrop four years ago. (Someone else ordered it with their account for me). Very durable. Good for prying and all that. The locking system is excellent, although I find it difficult to close with my left hand (my non-dominant hand), not that it's an issue. I'd rather have it be difficult to close than weak. The blade is the real issue here. I had the tanto with serrations, although the serrations weren't really an issue, and neither was the tanto. It dulled quite a bit, and I've never been able to get it sharp again. Not even close. I literally shaved my face with it when it was still new. I can't cut arm hair at all no matter how much I sharpen it now. I've even had some other people try to sharpen it.
For this reason I'd really like some of the similar knives from Cold Steel to drop, but with better steel. The Golden Eye from Cold Steel looks like a similar knife, but with S35VN. If anyone who makes polls is reading this, I'd love to see it included in a poll.

SoundtoxinYou got this 4 years ago in cts-xhp? It's a pretty good steel and sharpens well

UnwisefoolUnless they've changed the steel, yeah. I can go to my friend's profile and click on the drop from his list and it comes to this very page.

UnwisefoolThe blade isn't labeled, and I don't think I've got the box anymore, so I suppose I can't know for sure. That's the same steel listed on the Cold Steel site, though, so it's not like Massdrop is using a special steel with this. I find it very comfortable and the body is really well-made, but I find the blade very disappointing. I've got a few more expensive knives on the way at this point, so I doubt I'll ever be re-ordering this one. I'll keep in mind that the steel might have changed when discussing this in the future, but I do think it seems extremely unlikely.

SoundtoxinRight, now it says cts-xhp, which they upgraded all their knives to about two years ago, but it used to be aus8. I think that's what you have. Cts-xhp would be marked.

UnwisefoolAh, okay. If Cold Steel themselves did the switch, that would make sense. I tried checking an old version of the site with archive.org, but there aren't any archives from before 2016, unfortunately.

SoundtoxinIf it doesn't have the markings then it has the old steel. Not that it was any bad. Can you explain the sharpening procedure you guys used? It should be able to take razor sharp edge just like any other knife.
