I have the tanto. My friend has the spear point. The style is more of a preference in style. They cut more or less the same. Both of ours developed a rattle. One of the pin is friction fit and will loosen a bit. You can put a drop of blue loctite to remedy the sound. Also some sort of heavy grease can be used. Mine had a problem where the edge was rolling because the edge was hitting the spacer between the scales. So fit and finish with cold steel is a crap shoot as they are notorious for. For the price this is a great deal still. It's a slippery knife. Good because it doesn't tear up your pants. Bad because slippery. So I would say this is an edc blade rather than a field blade(recon is probably a better choice ) The anodization on the aluminum scales hold up very well. No wear from pocket use. Probably if you drop it on the floor.
