I was considering the C3 a month ago when I was looking for a small DAP for use during outside activities (cycling, skiing) to replace a Clip+.... the C3 touch screen didn't appeal to me. Buttons were much more convenient while riding or skiing. My search was narrowed down to the Xduu X2 and Fiio M3 (the other Fiio's were too bulky for my use, as was the Xduu X3). I finally decided on the M3 (its size, the lanyard and custom EQ swayed me). I have absolutely no regrets. The UI takes a little getting used to, but the sound is better than I expected, and its features are impressive. So far, it fits perfectly for my outside activities.

BeerCanChickenI just picked up a used Shozy Alien, and it would be perfect for the uses that u/werekong mentioned. The one exception would be the lack of a screen. It plays from a micro SDHC. The sound is nothing short of awesome, and I have seen reviews on Head-Fi.org that stated that the sound is better than or equal to the entire AK product line, with the exception of their most expensive model. I tend to agree that it is one of the best sounding DAP/DAC's I have heard. It also manages to outperform many dedicated amps that are supposed to be producing way more power. It has its quirks, and requires you to arrange the songs on the mini SDHC card in the order you want, but it is tiny, lightweight, and rock solid. It seems to be carved from a single piece of aluminum, and has stood up to all of the intentional and accidental abuse I have thrown at it, including dropping it onto the sidewalk from my 4th floor balcony. If the Alien is not your style, then the Cozoy Astrapi is made by the same company, and has received similar praise for its sound. It looks a bit more traditional, and is available for about $110 - $140. The Alien seems to have ceased production, so you will have to buy used. But, unless the previous owner was using it to drive nails, most used units would be fine.

MJLavelleIs it still touch screen, does it have user E.Q., and can it be attached to a lanyard (or have a clip)?

werekongNo, t has no screen at all, no EQ, and yes, you can attach it to a lanyard. Apparently, there is a new version, so I am not sure if it has a screen or EQ, but I doubt it. BUT, I bought the Cozoy Astrapi (which is the same company as Shozy, but they used a different company name. Go figure), and it is a DAC/amp only. It is Apple MFI certified, and the sound is extremely good. It is an improvement on the Alien, and a big one at that. The device is tiny, only about 1.25 inches long by about .5 inches wide. There are no user adjustments at all on it, but if you use the Onkyo app, you can have a good EQ. Honestly, it sounds embarrassingly close to my iFi Nano, and blows away my Schiit Modi Uber. You may want more substantial gear for long trips, etc, but for something to grab on your way out the door that you don't even have to wonder about where to store it, it is amazing. Other manufacturers should be embarrassed that something this tiny and this cheap can compete with, and even exceed their gear. Read some other reviews, and you will see that many who review these things for a living agree with me. One strange note - even though the Astrapi is Apple MFI certified, the chip is in the cable, not the device. I am not sure if this is normal for MFI approved devices, but it seems silly. You basically are just moving from the Apple CCK cable to one supplied by the manufacturer. Considering the failure rate of most MFI certified charging cables, this makes me nervous. Especially when Cozoy/Shozoy's web site is a hot mess, and I have little faith in getting a replacement from them if/when I need one.

MJLavelleUpdate: sorry, this was for Colorfly, not the player MJLavelle answered. My bad. Its admittedly tiny screen does show preset EQ settings (rock, pop, classic, bass & jazz besides normal) So you can play with EQ settings (its interface would make that a challenge) but it does have presets.

jtfrazierI was answering a question u/werekong about the Shozy Alien, not the player being sold here. The Alien has no screen or EQ Presets, at least none of the products shown on their home page. It is confusing having questions and answers flying around for a non-related product though.
