But hot damn they are kind of sexy. I also like the tilted belt loop in the back. Is that a fashion mark feature or for weight distribution when hanging? (I see that they might not be able to stich it because of the material directly under it)

BrainFlushI've seen the angled loop on heavyweight raw denim, probably to help with weight distribution when wearing. I guess it could double as a styling detail.

BrainFlushThey're typically used on very heavyweight denim since attempting to sew through the layered denim on the back seam becomes extremely difficult and causes a lot of needle breakage. 14oz is pretty much middle of the road weight though so it's just a stylistic choice here.

Alee.GHi Alee.G! re: tilted belt loop That's exactly correct -- you would expect to see more of that, if anything, in the 20+ oz range and honestly these days is not that needed much -- sewing machines and needles have come a long way since the late 1800's/early 1900s when this type of construction was standard. It's a bit of homage, stylistic decision, and a bit of weight distribution/fit-based design.

BrainFlushThe beltloops are quite thick because there is a rope inserted in them (will look great when faded). Placing them vertically on top of the back rise would make it too bulky. Besides this, we like them tilted.
