The Corsair AX series is the de facto standard for 1000+ wattage power supplies. If you're spending that kind of money you should go for the PSU that's known for its quality. Nothing against Cooler Master (I use some of their hardware.) but I think this was a dumb choice.

SurgicalAs far as spec wise, this PSU has everything you're looking for PLUS our awesome Gold Guarantee policy (which means advanced replacement should something go wrong). The "de facto standard" has changed ;)
For those wondering who this is geared for - we are looking at developers for VR games and mutli-GPU 4K setups. It's true that power consumption is going down, but the efficiency rating actually makes it a good cost saver over time.
Also, someone mentioned the rest of the power is "wasted" if not used. This isn't exactly true.

CM-RajivBut it is true that for the vast majority of users this power supply is would exceed their needs; especially considering a person willing to spend this much on a power supply would likely have newer components it is highly unlikely they would construct a PC build that requires 1,200 watts. Depending on efficiency at different percentages of load (particularly lower efficiency rating at lower percentages of maximum loads) there has often been increase in wasted energy as heat with most power supplies.
That said, I have seen some reviews that suggest the efficiency of this PSU is rather high (90%) even at loads of only 200 Watts, and that it stays consistent keeping about (88%) efficiency at loads of 1000 Watts. In general I feel like Coolermaster gets a negative rap for people often don't see them as the 'luxurious option' because they don't have the edgiest logo or have some (ADMITTEDLY) cheaper alternatives. I would insist that people don't leave Coolermaster out of their consideration, the company has some great products; the Hyper 212's reputation speaks for itself, and I really appreciate what Coolermaster has brought to the US market with the CM Quickfire Rapid not skimping out on components like many other manufactures.
This line of power supplies is no exception, it seems to be made of quality components and have a worthy efficiency rating in a wide range of loads, it's just a little more than most people would need. If this were a more practical power supply (somewhere between 600-850 watts) I would consider joining a group buy. I have seen decent reviews on this line of power supplies so props to that. As a last note, I have never had a problem with Coolermasters RMA process which is a huge thing to consider when buying a PSU, I have spent a lot of money returning dead Seasonic PSU's waiting weeks for them to return to me still dead.
This is accurate, "For those wondering who this is geared for - we are looking at developers for VR games and multi-GPU 4K setups" and the second statement is also fairly accurate as it is efficient even at lower loads and compared to a lot of other power supplies you would decrease wasted energy at lesser loads/idle.

EvanWinsVast majority of people buying from Massdrop don't need Titanium campfire shrouds either. What's your point?
Edit: Or $300 keyboards, or $500 studio monitors, or $200 headphone stands, or.... You get the idea...

VintageSTXWhen I replied to who I was replying to, the implication was that this product was of no interest to the average MD browser because it was well beyond their needs. None of us need 95% of the crap we see on MD, we're here to find that 1 sweet deal that happens every 3 months. Enthusiast PC hardware NOT excluded.

galanafccsYea and a decent amount of those things don't really see a lot of sale, that's my point, something more practical would be cool to see because it'd be a little more justified for people at the price point.
What's your point? To support mine? Thanks! :)
