I wish the description gave an indication of how long it took to read "true" and if you had to jiggle it around at all to get that reading. That's my beef with tiny compasses, they're usually only accurate after a certain degree of fumbling, and if you don't have a "real" compass around to compare it with, you don't know if you've arrived at the right bearing or not.
This is a military-grade compass so I'd expect it to work like a "real" compass in terms of speed and accuracy at pointing to north, but first-hand experience is always appreciated.

amytysThe less you pay and less than full size equals less performance. There is no way around that. The key is whether the compromises allow it to remain effective for the intended tasks.
Where was it stated "military grade"? Neither MassDrop nor CountyComm make that claim from what I've seen. Just because they used the acronym "SERE" does not make it military grade!!!

DuxDawgYou seem to be an expert, any recommendations for a military grade compass? Note I did not put quotation marks on that.

HouseExpert? Dunno about that. Well read on the subject and three decades of orienteering experience. Finding geodetic survey markers is a bit of fun I like to have several times each year. Off trail the whole way, a 5" square in a 3 square mile area, often buried under vegetation. The Cammenga is military grade. Mine is still going strong after 30 years. Picked up a Silva Ranger similar to the model in the link (same except mine doesn't glow) and have used it for years. Really like that Brunton, it's on my list to get one of these days. Most dayhikes all I use is the Silva Huntsman. Shop around, each can be had for less elsewhere. Paid half that for the Cammenga and the Ranger but those were exceptional finds. Cheers!
