CountyComm Pocket Grappling Hook provides a very convenient tool for backpackers to toss a line over a branch and suspend a food bag out of reach of bears, raccoons, or other critters. It also serves as a great way to get a line over a river, or over a branch to suspend lightweight mosquito netting. Yes you could tie a rock to the paracord instead, but this solution is more reliable. I tested it head to head with a different brand's grappling hook. The other brand did not have sufficient mass to overcome friction and pull paracord over a tree branch. I do not use the spikes in the backcountry, leaving the option of using the tube as a waterproof container for whatnot, e.g. Spare Batteries, etc. Spikes rattle, so wrap them in rubber bands if you carry them in the tube. If you spend time backpacking and are tired of loading up a bear can, you will be very pleased with the addition of this grappling hook and 50' of 550 paracord.
