I have a Chord Mojo and this little guy. The Mojo is very good. This comes surprisingly close in a much, much tinier package. It drives my Focal Elears very well. See image for a size comparison. Not a bad drop, but it may not get much love at this price point.

Thanks for useful info :) btw Chord Mojo imho has worst visual design I have ever seen anywhere. Looks like children's tape recorder due its shape and those colorful dots...
Buy chord mojo if you are planning to spend 500$ instead of this.

Although it's bigger than the Mojo, the iFi micro iDSD Black Label ($549) has more-transparent sound, more features, inputs/outputs, and power. Or you could get the much more portable (and affordable) iFi nano iDSD LE for $129.
Looks a lot like they took the shozy alien design and added $300 to the price tag lol.

Exactly! it looks like rip-off of Shozy Alien design and Alien is one darn good sounding DAP, as to this one I have no idea.
499 for this? Why does it look like it fell off of an alien spacecraft? What the heck is that chassis?
IMHO to pay this price for a china wannabe audiophile company product is ridiculous. I made a mistake as I bought their COZOY ASTRAPI. It was worse than the build-in dac in my iPhone. never again.
$499 you could buy JDS the element dac/amp which has a fixed line-out ,rca in and very powerful headphone amp with dac with highest sample rate at 96khz/24bit , and you still have money left to buy another cheap headphone.(the like of Status cb-1 ,cheap but great headphone) Guys, com'on,This is like saleman waving a sign, "I know this is ridiculous price .. but you guys are stupid and gonna buy it anyway " in your face

Those are all budget options. Boutique means cost no object, which this product is. I bought a $500 portable amp just for it's +15db bass boost. A niche market among a niche market. Aesthetics and presentation are equal to or even trumps performance for people with money.

Budget options at $200-$300 pricepoint shouldn't trump $500 product in value and function aspect but, the ''subjective'' and ''personal'' aesthetic aspect. Comparing to point you are trying to refer, you wouldn't say that $1000 headphone amp ,with much lesser function and power-driving capability than $300 amp, should be considered well-worth money because solely it looks nice to you
But it's your money, so spend as you want. I rather save up and buy something that is worth the price
I cannot find the DAC chip used. Not buying.
For a 499 dac/amp, I don't find any reason that people should choose this instead of chord mojo

Bang on. Chord Mojo is the best headphone amp under $1,000, period, and you can get it through Moon Audio right now for $529 USD. For an extra $30 over this, the Mojo is a no brainer!
Xandros
not just that, you can order mojo from amazon.uk for around $430, much cheaper than USA
Man this thing looks freaking awesome but 499.99 for a simple printed PCB encased in a metal that has a cool design... You're really reaching here for fools.

The Shenzen cottage industries have figured out that audiophiles are suckers and they have started flooding the market with ridiculously designed products. Profits are very high in audiophile products since most DACs cost a few dollars at most.
That's barely an amp. 1VRMS at 32ohms is not even really enough for a line out signal.
Anyone know what DAC chip they use?

LMAO Yep.
I hate it when self-respecting DAC and amp companies fail to list actual hardware specifications for their devices. Also, how is it even an amp with such a low VRMS at just 32 Ohms?
The Mojo actually, for its performance, is quite the bargain. It's the best headphone amp in the sub-$1,000 category and was What Hi-Fi's product of the year 3 years in a row. Yes, it's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for with it. And there's absolutely no question about how good it is or whether it can power a set of headphones.
