Hello. This will be my first DAC purchase. I decided to get this to power my AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphones with the AntLion ModMic 4.0 here on Massdrop. I am kind of new to the whole DAC thing and was wondering if anyone knows a picture or can explain how to set this up properly with the mentioned gear I have? Would really appreciate some tips, thanks alot.

dglicherRather than having us guess at your setup you could share with us what you would like help connecting to. For example, a PC or Mac (with which OS), a phone (with which OS), both, wirelessly, via USB, via optical, or another combination. There are many ways to use this device. If you don't know how you like to connect, perhaps you could ask specifically about the connection type you would hope to use. Obviously a wired connection will give you better SQ than a wireless one, but the convince of wireless can be quite appealing. You could also check out the owners manual here: http://support.creative.com/manuals/welcome.aspx?catID=1&catName=SoundBlaster&subCatID=1084&subCatName=E-Series&prodID=22019&prodName=SoundBlasterE5 . I want to help, and not to sound harsh. At the same time it seems a bit silly to ask about all the ways to set up this device if some of them are either obvious to you, or irrelevant to your planed use.
That said, most people are probably going to connect to a PC running Windows 8.1 or older. (Windows 10 support is expected in the middle of July.) These people will likely use the included optical cable or USB cable. Some tips in this case would be to make sure you have installed the driver from Creative's support site, and adjust your recording and playback devices accordingly. You'll want to make sure you select the proper output, and format, such as 24-Bit, 192000 Hz under the properties advanced tab of the E5 under playback devices, if using USB. It's worth your time to study the E-series software to maximize its value for your specific needs. You'll need to use this software to change from the built in microphones to the ModMic. If you plan to use the included mount be aware of the eventual rubber discoloration issue I've mention in previous posts.
A tip for using it with a wired mobile connection is that double pressing the power button will disable charging. This will prevent both the E5 from charging your phone and any device from charging the E5. With any connection type pressing the volume button down will mute the audio. I haven't managed to adjust the input levels and other things via the phone application while connected to another device such as the PS4. This are just a few of the tips I think might be relevant to most folks. Let us know if you need more, and what they should be about specifically

thomwithahYes sorry, forgot to mention it will mostly be used as a permanent solution for my PC. I will most likely connect optically given that the AKG headset is optical. I have Windows 8.1 and below are some pics of the Audio Driver (it's a standard Realtek I believe).

Yes the quickstart guide showed me what I need. I was mainly just wondering what needs to connect to what, but I think I have a pretty good understanding of it now. Thanks again.

thomwithah^ Great suggestions here. Thomwithah I've reported the rubber item to my team as well. Thanks for the feedback!
