Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

This deal was the best I could find for US for this particular product, and the Limited Edition came with more of a boost to the audio. (It comes with the higher end power supply too) After installing the appropriate drivers into windows 10, hooking up the x7 via Usb to micro, and fiddling with the software to say it was using the E-MU XM7 Speakers, I have to game at 2% output from the computer, 4% is kinda loud when playing DOOM and 8% results in my ears ringing...
I'm kinda afraid to crank it past 20% in this configuration, let alone 100% and I look forward to listening to this with the Purpleheart Fostex. I'll update and try to respond to responses that want to know more about this product now that I own and actively use it on my computer.
Edit: My only gripes are the settings, there's a few things that are unclear with the manual: For example you can't use certain modes in conjunction with others. Like boosting the quality of the speakers and being able to use the microphones at the same time. They have to be set back to a more defaulted setting if you want to use the speakers and microphone at the same time for a VOIP call.
Also there's several outputs on this device that the computer will display and choosing the right one gives different options in the software as well. So that also can get confusing. That said, after about 20 minutes of fiddling you can get something that sounds really impressive.
So like I said, 20 mintues of fiddling.
The other thing that was confusing was that I couldn't seem to use the LE's included high power supply with the E-MU's recommended resistance setting. (there's no reasoning as to why, fiddling with it manually to 4 and turning the high power setting off made a noticeable drop in volume.)
I guess my "Cons" were mostly feeling that the directions were more of coddling than respectful. "Do it this way because we told you to" instead of "Don't do that because it's moot."
Either way most headaches on my part were resolved with just challenging my own user error.
To answer your question:
No. The mic does not pick up anything in direct mode for either Speakers or headphones. From my experience with the x7 Limited edition, you need to turn off direct mode (both of them) to use the microphone.
