I bought this card about a year ago from this drop. The build quality is really solid. Sound quality is a definite step up over the motherboard sound card or a laptop sound card. I have used this with HD439 Headphones, a 5.1 setup and 5.1 over optical and all have sounded great. The biggest feature that I would like to see if being able to play two seperate audio streams over two different devices. It is not possible to use the speaker out if you are using the headphone out, this is done via a toggle in software. The software options are fairly solid but you will find that each device requires some tweaking in software to get it sounding perfect. The microphone is not jaw dropping but still very solid.
I would not recommend getting this card if you are not prepared to go diving through your windows playback devices menu frequently if you are changing outputs, or going through the creative software.
I would recommend this for audiophile gamers, or streamers that need inline audio processing. This is also really good for CS:GO on default settings with my HD439's there is exceptional spatial awareness and I find I can hear footsteps really well.
I have had issues with windows updates messing with the creative software and requiring a software reinstall.
I am part of the HD6XX drop and will post how it handles those later in the year.

JigpoAs long as live encoding/stereo mix to digital out are off you can have an application send it's output to the optical out if you want two outputs. This is probably the only option to do so.

silverbot01My use case is having music or a video going to the optical out for my speakers, and games and comm's going to a headset. Or having the output mirrored like what the HTC Vive does in software.

JigpoWe definitely hear you on the Windows update side of things. Microsoft is constantly adjusting and tinkering the way the audio sub-system works...and since our driver sits at a deep level of the OS...it's subjected to the whims of Microsofts changes. We do our best to avoid this. Our later drivers are a bit more resistant to these changes and we're constantly in communication with MS to avoid this as often as possible.

CamboI have the HD6xx and currently using it with this sound card. I connect the headphone to the control pod and the sound is just amazing. I can't comment on how it will compare versus using a DAC or amp, but it is good enough for me. I can hear all the mids/high of all the instruments. The pairing is awesome. I also have a Logitech THX 5.1 speakers hooked up with this sound card via optical cable. All I have to do is to turn it on, turn down the volume on the control pod and I can share music with others with the 5.1 speakers.

LFaWolfI happen to have the ZxR and an X-Duoo XD-05 DAC/Amp. One thing I'll tell you, is that the sound coming from my DAC is just more detailed and clean than with the ZxR. The ZxR has a heavy bass that's just way too obnoxious for regular music listening. Something like that will work well for games, but if you're interested in music, you'd better off getting an external DAC/Amp, instead.

TekkamanRainThe ZxR does come with software to control the sound. You could adjust the Bass setting (by turning it way down) as well as the EQ. Did you try that?

LFaWolfYup, my EQ is set to flat, and the bass was turned way down. I find that the card is just very bass heavy by default, regardless of settings (I've had my ZxR for about two years, by the way). I heard that you can switch out the op amps for better results, although, I haven't tried it.

TekkamanRainHmm, I think it could be a matter of personal taste. I have the EQ set and the bass about one third the way, and I love the music (classical, yoyo ma and pop songs)., and find the balance is great.

CamboHi Cambo. A bit late on the reply but here goes. Overall the ZxR goes really well with the HD6XX, I have had zero issues when using it plugged in to the control Pod. I initially started out with the Classical EQ and a couple of the other enhancements but have since moved to zero enhancements and EQ.
