Would this be worth getting for gaming? For example games like CS:GO or BF4? Outside of plugging the two cards into my PCI slots and plugging some headphones in, I know very little about sound cards and what I need to take full advantage of it. Feedback greatly appreciated.

bosnaI use it for both games and swear by it. It also make switching between external speakers and a headset super easy - something an on-board card sucks at.

OpieSFIs that a particular switch for that on the ACM that does that? Because that's something I'm looking forward to! Also another quick question if you don't mind, how is the AMP on it? I'm using Astro A40s so don't think it would have a problem driving those.

HouseThey have up to a 600 Ohm impedance so it should not have any problem with any headphones. In the software you have to tell it to switch to higher ohms. Leave it off unless you actually need it cuz it may mess up your headphones.
Switching between headphones and speakers is through the software but its easy to get to as it sits in your system tray.
Overall great sound card. I'm no audiophile and not doing any op amps switching. I bought it because I wanted to connect a lot of things to it. Headphones, computer speakers, bigger speaker system though optical, also have my record player feeding into it. So i can have my system audio and record player all at the same time to any speaker. At one point also had my xbox 360 hooked up ( video to one of my pc monitors audio to sound card with optical). Worked great and sounded great. Strictly pc gamer now though. Is it going to sound better than a cheap dac/amp setup? Not sure I could tell the difference but I know it I like how it sounds and how much it can do for me. So for me, totally worth the purchase. Bought mine on amazon on sale for 184 almost two years ago.

alex_roblesThank you for such valuable feedback. I got unlazy and read up some reviews, still currently looking into a GURU3D review here. Currently both my headphones and speakers are all 3.5mm jacks (I think the Astro came with optical cables but don't know where they are. :D My question is would the amplifier work on these without adapters to the 1/4''? http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/soundblaster_zxr_review,6.html

HouseYes, you do not need any adapters. The acm that will sit on your desk that has the knob to control volume is where you will likely plug in your headphones. It has the option for either size plug for both headphones and microphone.

alex_roblesInteresting, I guess there's not much benefit in using the 1/4'' compared to the 3.5mm since the amp will just work off the analog input from the 3.5mm either way? A part of me keep thinking non-standard (3.5mm) connectors will yield better result for some reason.

HouseI saw you said your A40's have an option to be used with an optical cable, if you plan on using them with an optical cable I would advise to not get a sound card.
If you use the card with an optical cable it wouldn't make sense to use an expensive sound card for it. When you use an optical cable you bypass the DAC (digital to analog converter) and amp. The sound will be processed with the dac and amp of the product your astro's came with.

AcriboThanks for your valuable input. Currently I connect the A40s through USB to the back of my motherboard, no sound card installed. There's actually no place to plug in the optical cable. I guess to take advantage of the amp of the sound card, I'd need a 3.5mm to 1/4' adapter ? On this review, it says the amplified connection is the "1 x Amplified 1/4" Stereo Jack". People have been saying connecting to the ACM is a total bust. I also have Simple Audio Listen which I plan to use with the provided RCA adapter cables.
Thoughts on that?
