So, no comment from creative labs about the difference between the regular H5 and the special edition H5? (Crickets....)
Justsomeguy2Hey guys, sorry been traveling and wasn't able to answer here sooner. The side plate of the H5 SE is a spun metal plate that catches light differently and definitely looks "higher" end than the standard edition H5's. It also has a nicer tactile feel (IMO) than the standard edition (which still feels pretty darn nice in your hand).
As far as the audio signature...we definitely have a different signature (and massively different ear cup design) than the Clouds. Audio is always going to be subjective. We haven't intentionally curved the H5's for the lower end of the audio spectrum like several of the "gaming" headsets are (this is a pretty common tactic when other companies are tuning for gaming (and cheaper) and makes the headset sound more powerful for a short listen, but really loses out in the long run due to detail loss in the upper ranges), but the H5's deliver a nice low end punch while keeping details in the mids and highs really clean. As I've said in various other responses...our goal is to deliver an experience unique to the Sound BlasterX brand...not cloning another companies product signature (especially when we hang our hat on our audio heritage).

DigitalRonynThanks for the reply and clarification. My overall understanding is that the H5's and the SE H5's sound essentially the same, with some aesthetic finish upgrades on the SE. I have the H5's and they do sound great - about as good as it comes. The microphone could be better, but overall an excellent headset.
