What DAC chip is being used in the Katana? Even the gamer styling, gamer RGB still doesn't justify its gamer price tag. I'm asking as I already have several external DACs.

dharkharmaI'm not ignoring this, just making sure I'm getting the right technical info from my engineering team. Will update soon on the technical front.
On the "gamer price tag" front you make an excellent point and I wanted to talk about this a bit.
With our BlasterX line we made a VERY conscious choice to follow the philosophy of NOT overcharging simply because the product had the word "gamer" associated with it.
In our opinion products should be built to a standard that exceeds the price point you are charging for them REGARDLESS of who they are targeted for. Our philosophy for putting "gaming" in the title is us saying "We believe that the people who are going to use this gear for hours a day will say this product kicks ass". That's about as straight forward as I can be.
Our marketing tactics rely on word of mouth and people talking about our products inside the community versus spending millions on advertisement and marketing efforts to convince people that our products are good.
We let our products speak for themselves.
Katana is no exception to this philosophy.
The other item is that Katana is first and foremost a high-powered speaker system. When people feel the build quality and experience the audio as well as the pretty staggering functionality that the device offers with audio customization and control, it more than justifies the price point just based on it being a badass speaker system (in our opinion). This isn't just "another sound bar" it's a completely unique product that changes the way "desktop speakers" will be perceived.

dharkharmaDharkharma, the DAC / AMPs are all of our own design and handled my our multi-core processor. The Katana is quite quiet with it's headphone output, but if you're a serious audiophile you're still going to want to use a dedicated headphone DAC if you're used to that level of output. The Katana is designed as a high-powered desktop speaker first and foremost and the headset / headphone has been optimized for use with standard analog headphone / headsets (32 Ohm).

DigitalRonynThank you for reply. Just so you know I am from Singapore, where Creative and Razer are based. Even locally we do not get this sort of open discussion between maker and consumer, I'm glad that at the very least we have a platform like MD to discuss with our US counterparts. Having said that, Creative Singapore will release the Katana locally soon at a more favorable price. Rest assured I will be going down to audition the speakers thanks to you. As a tech and audio enthusiast, I will end by saying that not all gaming speakers are good speakers, but all speakers can be good gaming speakers.

dharkharmaYou hit the nail on the head of why we really live Massdrop. You can cut through the noise and engage with you customers and potential customers on a direct level.
I know you will be impressed with the output and quality of Katana when you audition it. Personally, I love watching people's reactions when we've shown it to them... It always delivers (and people have literally sat back and gone "oh wow").
