If this item doesn't perform as advertised or sound as good as the reviewers are stating, can we return the item and receive a full refund?
According to a lot of people, Creative Labs doesn't have the best track record for producing speakers.

Holmes2468Hey there Holmes 2468. We've been producing PC speakers for over 2 decades now with several awards for our speaker products ranging from multi-channel to 2.1, 2.0, and our Bluetooth speaker offerings. The Katana is the culmination of that experience as well as the integration of our latest audio technologies.
As I said in my original statement here...we went with Massdrop with the INTENT of proving to the discerning crowd here tha this flagship product is worth not only it's price point, but a spot on a desktop.

DigitalRonynI get that. The issue is, is the product that good? There are a lot of people that is saying that you guys don't have the best track record in speakers for the price and every review looks and sounds like a commercial for the product and not an actual review. With my experience with your products, the cards can only be used once without being moved on to a different slot on the MB. Once it has been moved, the card will no longer work at all. Then there was the Omni that doesn't process sound randomly and send the sound to my speakers. Also, you guys are not on my favorite list with software either. I had sound cards that the MB recognized and your software said the card is not in a slot in the MB.
I would like to know what is this unit's short comings and where it exceeds when compared to other speakers at its price point.
That is why I am asking if I don't like the product, can I return the unit for a full refund.

Holmes2468Dude what are you talking about, Creative's track record in speakers is excellent! I agree some of their other categories have problems but their speakers are great. If you're not sure about the drop, skip it. But don't go inventing some fake bad track record... much less in a category they actually do well in.

BabyGI'm not inventing their back story. Just go on the Linus Tech tip forums, and hell, look at the YouTube comments of the reviewers, these is a lot of negativity towards creative Labs speakers and recommending Audio engine A5+ and JBL 3 series over this unit.
Personally, I want the Katana. I just want to make sure that they are going to accept refunds if the unit ends up being over hyped and sounds like crap or it decides not to work for some random reason on random videos and games like their Omni DAC.
I'm still not very happy that their sound cards don't work on the same computer MB when I moved the card on slot to make room for my WiFi adapter.

Will you only believe a review if it is negative about a product? What if it is actually very good? The form factor is plain to see and examine, all that is left to talk about is the sound and software, and all the reviews have said the software is currently buggy. Plus the video reviews are from large channels - do they want to jettison their reputation for the sake of this product?

Holmes2468There are loads of active monitors in existence, but almost none would have gaming specific features. A soundbar with a compact sub is a completely different and more convenient form factor for use with a screen. The fact alone that you turn the sub up and down with a remote is a great advantage over most non-gaming set-ups.

Holmes2468If it's good for gaming it will be good for any media if you can adjust the settings and turn off all the gaming stuff (like surround simulation and big bass) as you seem to abundantly be able to with the Katana.

Holmes2468The Katana is designed to sound great regardless of the content. It's a great speaker first and foremost.
The fact that we have audio processing that CAN be used (I capitalized CAN because some people prefer no enhancements or processing for certain situations) allows it to be customized for different listening situations and different use cases. That's the reason why we have the multiple profiles for the device. I myself have a very different profile for music listening than I do for gaming when using Katana.
As others have noted in other parts of these comments, it's hard to compare versus particular speaker setups because Katana is unique to itself.
I can say it is VERY powerful, gets VERY loud without distortion, and we are first and foremost an audio company that has genuine experience, patents, and audio scientists that live and breathe audio technology every day. This isn't an off the shelf design with a "gaming" label slapped on it. It's purpose built to provide an ideal solution for todays desktop (gaming or whatever else you're using your PC, or console, or TV, or whatever else you want to attach Katana to as well).
The reviews are positive so far because the product is impressing people. It's really that simple. Yes, we sent the reviewers early software because we wanted to give them time to use the product for a while and experience it even in a raw form before posting their reviews. We believed that Katana even in raw form would impress. So far it has.
We totally get that this is a new thing. It's not just a sound bar. It's far more than that....and something that frankly no one else is capable of delivering on at this time due to the unique combination of form and technology ...audio processing alone is completely unique to the Katana in this form factor. We also know that we came specifically to Massdrop where people would be critical because we feel Katana will absolutely live up to expectations.
