This or the X7 + E-MU XM7 combo? Which would be suited for primarily PS4 gaming, media consumption off a PC and some music occasionally. I think the obvious answer would be the Katana, but if I use headphones often?

contactedThe whole point of these speaker systems are to use good speakers to play the audio. If you just want headphones, an amp like a Sound BlasterX G5/E5 would do.

contactedUnless the Creative Labs person has heard the E-MU XM7 then nobody here will be able to compare those to the sound of the Katana. I would hope the Katana is at least as good as speakers at the price point of the E-MU XM7. The respective DAC's of the X7 and the Katana will not result in any difference in quality of sound. The x7 (or any decent DAC if you don't want the gaming features) with good enough speakers will sound better than the Katana. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect the Katana to sound as good as £1000 + speaker systems (and that sort of thing can be not very neighbour friendly). What price point or particular speakers though the Katana is equivalent to, those of us who have ordered are yet to find out. The bar with sub is a totally different form factor though and as far as I know the x7 doesn't have the convenience of a dedicated remote control.

SafetytrousersThe Katana was at Dreamhack, it is mind blowing. Theres a certain spatialization that can't be described until you hear it. It's truly immersive unlike any bookshelf speakers with very good precision. The games demoed were CS:GO and a overwatch and speakers it's very impressive sounding and also very loud despite it being a gaming event with loud ambience.

SafetytrousersThank you for your input. If we bring this to a comparison to say a Yamaha YAS-106? From where I'm from, both the Katana and the YAS-106 are quite close in pricing. Katana has an indicative SRP of 419 SGD (284 USD), but could go for lower during Tech shows here. Coming from Singapore, Creative products here are generally better priced which tells me (subconciously) that I'm getting better value. :)
