Anyone has an opinion on Acuto 440 steel? Curious to learn about real life experiences on it.

BobrazNo real life experience here, but it should be a perfectly fine steel for the kind of knife it is. Slightly better than 440C in theory.

Bobraz440 steel in general is something you'd get on like a 20-30 dollar knife. Not an 105 dollar knife, like this. So it's a huge ripoff. Not that it's Massdrop's fault though. Just CRKT being cheap bastards.

this is the composition. its very close to 440C, if not slightly better. its not anywhere near great cutting performance but its way better in comparison to 8cr13MoV thats on 99% of CRKT's other knives. its no where near say s35vn in cutting performance. but again, whos going to be using this for that much work? most people will use it to cut a few things here and there and look nice for office carry. good for if you can carry a knife in an office type inv if you wear a suit etc.

PapaEmeritusThis is not a ripoff. its one of CRKT's best knives. the steel is not idea, but the size of the knife makes it a light use knife. opening envelopes and looking very nice for office use. the amount of milling and the titanium used and ikbs is why its expensive. i agree its expensive in comparison to other knives with better steel. but again its crkt's best knife. is it a rip off? not really. is the steel a budget steel, yes. ultimately if your looking for a user, pass on this knife. if you want to look good and do occasional light tasks and cutting then its worth it for you.

anonomousThere's gentleman's folders for around the same price that are of the same quality, but have better steel. Just because it's CRKT's best, that doesn't give them a pass. CRKT puts bad steel on a lot of otherwise great knives. For just a dew dollars more than this knife, you could get an Al Mar. Al Mar's are the same quality, if not better, and have AUS-8 steel. Not saying an Al Mar is the best by any means. Just using it as a comparison. It wouldn't have put them out any to put AUS-8 or D2 on this knife.

PapaEmeritusthis really is a great knife. and the steel is slightly better than aus8. I do agree the al-mar knives are nice but also too expensive for some models that have aus8. an Ontario rat 1 in d2 steel is a really great value.

anonomousI always personally thought AUS-8 is better than 440. Guess it all comes down to personal preference. There is no one perfect steel. I'm also not saying it's not a very good knife. I'd love to own it. I'm simply saying they could've done better for the money.

PapaEmerituswell this crkt knife is acuto 440 which has addition of chromium and some vanadium over regular 440c composition, which increase several different properties. but only slightly since its not much obviously. so were nit picking here. I don't think anyone would really tell a differences. But there will be a difference but not drastically.
