I'd love to see 2910N HISSHOU on Massdrop!
O1 is OK for a basic tool steel. Nothing wrong with it and nothing particularly wonderful about it for knives, either. There are lots of alternatives and O1 is pricy for what you get out of it. I like the blade. But ... The “rayskin” doesn’t look real. And it lost me on the paracord. I might go for it with any decent handle alternative. The MD price is pretty good on this.
Would this be legal to carry in California for walking the dog or trail hiking? I feel confident carrying my fixed Achi but the Sakimori is quite a bit longer. thanks

You shouldn't have any problem with this knife if you open carry it. California doesn't distinguish between lengths of fixed blade knives: all fixed blades are legal to carry, but illegal to conceal; the relevant section of state law is "Concealed Knives, Dirks, and Daggers – CA Penal Code § 12020." You can't brandish it, or bring it inside schools or on college campuses (2.5"+). I've had zero issues carrying my Bradford Guardian 3 attached to my pack while hiking and camping. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, and local laws can vary - LA has laws against 3"+ blades, for example. Also, being on the right side of the law doesn't prevent you from being questioned, detained, or even arrested. Carry wisely.
the blade screams "seppuku"
I cannot buy anything from their CRKT Distributor until the CRKT Provoke ships from the Jan 18th. (Was supposed to ship on Jan 25th, and still has not.) Buyer Beware of the CRKT orders from Massdrop! They may not ship for months regardless of the advertised expected ship date!! Very Very disappointed in Massdrop for not giving us any answers on Whats going on. "Due to an unexpected delay, the CRKTProvoke D2 Karambit Folding Knife may ship later than the original estimated ship date. Our apologies for any inconvenience. At this time, it is estimated that these knives should ship towards the end of March."

I have the AAA Aluminum flashlight, and both the Head Unit and the Tail unit unsrew, but the head unit doesn't seem to separate into more than one part. I can send you a pic if you like of it broken down, and see if that answers your question. I cary my AAA light every day, and love it. I have used it almost every single day since I purchased it. The lens even has a coating on it of some sort. Other lights reflect a purple color when seen in the cap. (Ill try to capture an image and post it for you either here or on the AAA aluminum page. (Im pretty sure the ti version is identical)
Yugbe
Yeah, if you could post some pics that'd be righteous. Thanks
Do these come with the display box like the old version?
A CRKT in a steel that doesn't suck.. Do my eyes deceive me?

Its a carbon steel at 57 Rockwell, so the basic idea is you can beat the shit out of it then fix up the edge real quick. O1 used to be popular in custom fixed blades, and you still see it from some makers.
DepthCharge
Thanks Depth, so many steels out there and hard to keep track of while new one's seem to pop up as well.
Now that this drop is back again and I've been watching for it, I'm in...woot!
Never heard anything about O1 steel but think for my money will buy three Recon tantos.

O1 is a good tool steel. It will take a screaming sharp edge, but it will rust. It is NOT stainless. A little oil on it here and there and it is a fine steel for a knife. O1 is pretty common in fixed blades.
namhod
Yup; surface rusts, pretty quickly. I've had good luck scrubbing the brown off my homemades with an oiled rag and elbow grease when I've been neglecting them. Haven't managed to get one much further than "lightly brown-ish", though, even when I misplaced it in a cardboard box for a year. My Mora rusts faster, and worse.
O1's probably not a good steal for folks that are lazy about oiling, and also anal about having a clean blade. My homemade makes a great beater camp knife, though. A little rust on the bottle opener I cut into the back end of the handle isn't hurting my feelings any.
I'll keep an eye out for the next run
I'm out... apparently groceries and electricity is needed instead :(
I'm in... Zombie apocalypse better come in my life time or most of my purchases will be in vein.

As a landscaper I don't come across knife fights too often, but if I did I would definitely have the Sakimori and the larger Shinbu in reach...

A weedwacker for grass, a saw for trees and these bad ass knives for sculpting zombies or any other threatening idiots.
CRKT has got to be the most optimistic knife brand, couple hundred bucks for an admittedly nice-looking 3" O-1 fixed blade with a Paracord handle wrap?
Omniseed
Well, most knives that are designed and sold as pure weapons are often marketed as a high price. The fact that it is designed by a renowned martial guy (James Williams) adds to the hype and then high price.
Yeah, that handle is *not* ray skin. Cord wrapped handle, yes. Ray skin, no.

It sure looks like real rayskin?
zipsurf
In the pictures that they used here for the drop, it looks exactly like a rubber or plastic version of what somebody who has never seen real rayskin in person would think that rayskin looks like. The pictures on CRKTs site look closer to the real thing, but using the real thing is a noteworthy feature, and nowhere in their documentation do they specify that rayskin is involved. It merely says "traditional cord-wrapped handle".
