There are comments about how some people are using standard 2.25" billiard balls with varied success. And then I went searching and found these http://www.twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=113_119 I'm not sure how well they'll work but they sure look pretty. The purple one would sure go well with GMK Laser.
yanfaliOK I ordered the pink one. Going to mod the trackball to have a purple LED. Should look interesting. Ironically it's cheaper to get it from their ebay store than direct.
MiToExtremely difficult to photograph, but this is with 1 purple LED and 2 red ones and the pink translucent trackball from eBay. It's looking very promising. I'm going to change out 1 more tonight.
MiToOK, so if you liked that, this is with the two left and right LEDs switched to purple.

The camera has a lot of trouble capturing RED, it shows up as white on the sensor if the brightness is automatic.
The color you get depends very much on your angle from the device. From straight in front it's red, because that's the top LED, but from the side you get this lovely red purple mixture that looks a lot like how I imagine GMK Laser in cyberspace. I'm pretty happy how this mod turned out. The pink trackball definitely enhances the color.
yanfaliWow, is there any way you can post a video of how to do this? I'd gladly pay you to do so, even if that requires buying you another trackball... I just received mine today and after looking at the internals, I am stupefied. (cry)
yanfaliAll three LED diodes on the CST board have two wires each that are very short. Do I just strip and cut the long wires that I got off eBay to a very short length and solder them on? (See picture I posted.) I'd appreciate any tips you have on de-soldering the ones that are currently on the CST board. Afraid of frying it. Thanks!
