To anybody taking apart switches that are not mounted onto a plate, I've found the easiest way of doing this is to construct two angled "U" shaped tools out of paper clips. Slide this under the latches on one side, and then insert the second one and squeeze both tools to lift all four latches, allowing the top shell of the switch to be removed.
I would also recommend being very careful not to bend the gold leaf, or accidentally put the top shell on backwards. If it gets bent, the switch may no longer actuate properly, and it is difficult to re-tension the gold leaf properly.
