Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

$10 Drop Coupon Email not sent?

Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

1) I'm assuming that the FIBAE does not use TWFKs or have their characteristic mid-treble spikiness around 6-8kHz. Can you confirm this? I am very sensitive to treble spikes in this region.
2) Are the bass drivers vented?
3) Given that the FIBAE uses BA woofers, how does their weight and viscerality compare to typical dynamic woofers in terms of pure air mass being moved, not bass output level? I'm sure the decay will be quick yet still natural, but I'm talking about the feeling of your ear canals rumbling and vibrating, which is not directly correlated to sub-bass *once you get to basshead quantities* in my experience, it's more about the amount of air being moved.
[Ignore 4 and 5 if you can provide a frequency response plot, even a sketched one would suffice, though a software generated one would be amazing] 4) What are the relative levels of subbass, midbass, and upper bass? Is the bass boost in the shape of one or two low-pass shelf filters? If so, can you provide approximate frequencies and dB boost levels of the so-called bass boost filters?
5) Is there a upper-mid/lower treble lift relative to the lower mids?

Well I still do have my very own UM Merlin v1 so I guess I could weight in a little bit (although, now from memory, I can provide the direct comparison if few hours when I get back home).
1) It doesn't use TWFK per se, but it does have similar driver which is used for highest highs only (>6kHz). There's very very small spike around 8kHz (which is +2.5-3dB relative to 2kHz peak), so it shouldn't be bothersome. Merlins have much greater spike in lower range (around +10dB at 5.5kHz). I would say the output you get with 2200 filter is still greater than this of FIBAE ME. What I can also add is that while UM Merlin has 5kHz peak the ME has deep (quite typical for our tuning) meaning that most of the sibilance and harshness are kept away, while maintaing highs presence/airiness thanks to the shift to higher frequencies. 2) Yes, they are 3) I would say it's as close to dynamic as it can be - for example at CanJam Singapore we got few people saying that if they didn't know it's all BA they would say it's dynamic driver (Jude of Head-fi.org included). Still I think the UM Merlin has better ability to move more air in the ear canal, though. 4) The highest output of sub-bass centers around 30Hz and it's +10dB relative to 1kHz. 100Hz is +7dB; 200Hz is +5dB; 500Hz is +1dB The output is closer to 1st order LPF 5) Yes, 1.8-4kHz output is approximately between +6-8dBs
That said, since MEs are BAs you might find it lacking in saturation and long decay of dynamic driver, if you are massive basshead. I should be able to get back to you with direct comparison is few hours.
