OMG (never used that before) I ve spent many hours of my life sketching like this with normal pens. If this really works as well as it seems I ll buy a lot more than just one. A question about the refill though. Are these easily available anywhere else?
dedalianThis pen is, as far as I know, the first of its kind, and it was released last year. I stipple most of my sketches these days, because frankly, dots hide my lack of talent. So I've wanted this one since I first found out about it a few months ago. The pen is available from the manufacturer through Amazon for $58+7.50 and the refills (pack of 5) are $3.5+7.5. Both ship from overseas. The few reviews on Amazon are mostly very positive.
RedDot don't usually hand out awards to fads; previous winners include the Faber-Castell eMotion, the Graf von Faber-Castell Initio and the Lamy 2000 and Studio, to name a few. This pen is in good company, so I have high hopes for this one.
I suspect that the serious artist might feel that this pen suppresses their individuality, their unique touch. And it remains to be seen if durability and reliability are as good as the design.

TherocRed dot is a pure design award and some of the products they have awarded whare utterly useless. True that this have only been a couple of times but a red dot is not a guarantee that it will be a good product.
