$150 now. Lowest this got on Massdrop was like $116 a few months ago, I think. Probably won't see it that cheap again, but who knows. Been selling for higher prices elsewhere, so probably not a bad drop.
Just got mine in yesterday. Sucks to see all the horror stories, but mine was in perfect condition.
I will say the packaging was TERRIBLE. A single bag of air to pad the top, and the side of the shipping box was dented up also. And...wait...did they just reuse an old Ultipro Box? Like that’s the box a display case of card sleeves comes in. Ok Wtf your shipping is just embarrassing.
Despite this, the goods arrived in perfect condition. No manufacturers defects or shipping damage. But it was definitely luck that I got it in that condition. It could have easily been trashed. I will not be rolling the dice on something this expensive again if this is how you package it.
I would love to get these because I'm honestly just a sucker for good-looking book covers, but what guarantee do I have that I'm not going to end up with the same experience as seemingly everyone else here and have to deal with returns and customer service? Has the persistent quality issue finally been taken care of or are those in charge just hoping people don't read the discussions page?
This site has gone down the drain the last couple of years. Which is mostly the reason why they did the aesthetics and name change recently. I wouldn’t bother with the site anymore to be honest.
RegulithAgainst my better judgement I gave into the temptation and ordered the last drop, and I seem to have lucked out. The package arrived in kind of rough shape (very scuffed up, battered corners), and inside was absolutely zero packaging besides the shrink-wrapped collector's box. The first thing I noticed is that the DM screen is about 1/8th of an inch shorter than the books and sits at one end of the box, which meant the corners of the box on that end got pretty beat up due to the extra space. The books themselves, however, are in almost perfect condition, which is really all I cared about. A couple of the corners are ever so slightly bent if you look closely, but it's not like I was intending to keep these pristine forever. I gave them all a flip-through and there don't seem to be any binding or printing issues. I guess the dice rolls extend to the merchandise itself, too.
Just a heads-up-- you're better off getting the foil editions. You can get the whole set cheaper than this version typically, and personally, I had a bad experience with this set (though I ordered on Amazon rather than Massdrop).
I got this set 3 times brand new, and returned each. Even when packing was done nicely for the second and third, still had issues. I think some of the "shipping damage" people complain about may actually be the result of either poor quality control or mishandling by manufacturers.
According to other reviews, this problem seems to be a rather prevalent one-- with book conditions being VERY hit or miss, leaning towards the latter.
Of course, YMMV. If you're still interested in this set, I hope you the best.
I slammed the buy button because I was just considering this as a birthday present but now see a bunch of complaints about damaged product. Can we get assurances that the product will be packaged correctly?
Sorry to hear that. I think they're still solid for other stuff, just not collectible goods. As for Amazon, they're pretty good about item exchange if the items you ordered are from Amazon and not other sellers. I was able to replaced a hard covered book this way.
