I keep saying it. I like these. But for the love of EDC! What metal is it? Every drop. That one detail. Missing. Oh well. Have to pass because of that.

BrainFlushBrainFlush: We wanted to be certain about the material, and have reached out to our supplier and were told it was steel as the base metal with either a nickel plate or black coating for the 2 options. We have seen the leather and metal aged and/or worn away on our key chains and we feel they look very good with lots of wear, so we hope this helps.

DA-LUCAThank you. Sadly I'm a copper or other metals kind of dude. Steel isn't for me.
I look forward to any revisions you make if you decide to enter that realm. Thanks.

ElliottIt's just steel is kind of available everywhere anywhere. Versus copper or exotics that are typically not mass produced. In this case, this clip is generic in that regard.

Basically I'm paying for a strip of leather at a premium price. For that I'll pass. I didn't buy either companies fobs and I won't until they show me actual craftsmanship. Meaning every thing is made by them. Or at least not available by the millions. And that in turn implies that it should be even cheaper if that's the case.

BrainFlushThose appear to be the same hardware as what is used on our product. To machine these pieces in house, would mean the costs would be well above what is offered at this drop's price. We plan to go in that direction over time, but without lots of support it makes it harder for us to reach that level. We hope that makes sense.

BrainFlushWe love patina and aging as well, so we will look into it sooner than later and see what we can come up with. The prices would be MUCH higher for those as well. This particular key chain has done extremely well for us and we are excited that people are trying them out here on Massdrop.

You might be able to make something for very cheap out of copper or brass or whatever in-house, just look at those 2 items. I am not here to change your business or profitability. I just buy certain things. And in my case, I can easily find the materials I want and basically attach anything I already own to it. Granted I do have friends who have an industrial sewing machine, so there's that one thing. :D
I only suggest what I think might make you better or standout. Just my opinion though. The other company also said they would look into doing something different. Thanks for responding.

BrainFlushI assumed you're answer would be along these lines and I appreciate the fuller response.
I'm of the same mind lately when it comes to these kinds of trinkets re: the actual hardware. I've got a friend who works in an antique store and he's been keeping an eye out for hardware and the like in some lovely metals. From there I'm hoping to give leatherworking a shot to make my own.
No doubt in my mind @DA-LUCA will be a superior product to whatever I cobble (wait... Not making shoes) together, but being5price sensitive and needing to not spend willy nilly has lead to a need to be creative with my style.
