Why doesn't Massdrop just go direct to a Shenzhen manufacturer and get some real deals? In my opinion Da Luca is not making these straps themselves, neither the webbing, nor the cutting, assembly, and sewing, so they are probably just taking a distribution profit on products that they buy from China.
If you go to Alibaba and enter "perlon watch strap" you can find dozens and dozens of companies that will ship direct to the U.S. at unit costs of 50 cents to $1.50, minimum orders of 1, 50,.100, 500.
I suppose that you could say that Da Luca performs a curation function since they probably got samples from different Shenzhen manufacturers and chose the best, but I think Massdrop would have no problem getting samples to evaluate. And I think that whatever curation role that Da Luca is doing as far as color selection leaves a lot to be desired. As @nfischer says, the colors are "vibrant" and "not suitable for dress usage." That's putting it politely.

CloacaIf you take a look at our buckles, they are custom, thick and have “DA LUCA” pressed into them. The finishing and overall quality was the best we could put together and they are not from China they are made in Europe in small batches. We hope this helps as these are much higher quality then the straps that are mass produced in China.

DA-LUCAthe buckles... the buckles are made in europe... thats like buying shoes that say made in america but the only thing american is the laces. i was going to buy the nato, and this perlon 2 pack, but after reading reviews, it sounds like these are just a waste of money. everyone is better off on etsy.

tom-ganks@kpjimmy has posted photos of his Crown & Buckle "melange" perlon straps, such as here:
https://www.massdrop.com/talk/153/wrist-check/1973700
These are available in tasteful colors and the strands have two shades of the same color to give them some extra visual texture. I ordered a couple of them, one in forest and one in linen, which should arrive any day now.

I have no idea where these are made.

DA-LUCAThe days of blaming China for “quality“ are long gone when you end up sourcing from them. Exactly which European artisanal facility are you buying these from in small batches ? Hermès?
and this artisanal faciltiy? Does it have any machines made And staffed by Europeans or the “lower quality” Chinese people or no people at all. Just a warehouse dropshipping?
when you dont disclose the specifics of your sourcing, we kind of know the answer
