Ffff.. Make sure to install the drivers and set DAC to 512 buffer size and disable safe mode. At first I was disappointed, but for some reason it set buffer size to 2048 and safe mode was enabled. Sounded 10x better after making those two changes. This beats my Schitt modi 2 and magni 2 by a long shot. Set settings as follows: Windows: 24bit 192000Hz DAC software: buffer size 512, DISABLE safe mode
Coming from a Schiit Modi and Magni 2 - excited to see how this stacks up. Can anyone provide any feedback/comparisons on this unit? I've read what little is already out there on the interwebs. It seems to be a very high quality unit (especially at it's drop price of $175).

What kind of USB connection is on this thing? It looks weird

Do you ever had a printer?

USB Type B.
Need some help guys... i have a sony bravia TV connected to my Magnat amp that is fueling a set of focal aria 948s. I usually use the 3.5mm output headphone jack to L and R phonos to connect tv with amp... the headphone jack failed on me and need to output sound through the optical connection now. This is connected to another rudimental DAC that is not throwing enough power for some odd reason and even at highest volume i cannot watch and hear a film decently. I was wondering if i buy this dac/amp would help my situation by connecting optical from tv to this DAC and than phonos from DAC to my main Magnat Amp! Or should i than get a wire from the headphone jack of the amp to connect to the phonos on my main amp? Bit confusing i know but am hoping someone here can give me a helping hand...

Perhaps it's easier to understand your setup if you could draw a picture of it?

How do you control the volume to your amp?
I'm looking for a DAC/Amp including line-in. And again, a promising and affordable device but without a remote. Is everybody sitting always right next to the equipment?
I own this one, and have to say it is not that impressing. Sure, the power is plenty, and it can push almost anything. But it has a ridiculously high 10Ohm of output impedance, which technically makes it completely unsuitable for multi-driver, low-impedance IEMs.

iFi DACs perform very poorly "for the price". Check out measurements on Audio Science Review, they are poorly ranked but still perform better than Schiit or Audio-GD DACs Get Topping DACs instead. .very great performance and value (measured on Audio Science Review)
artnoi
thank you , i will check their sites out :) haven't heard anything bad at all all this times about them , and for the price what's build in / it looked rly great (maybe the top units are bad price to perf ratio ?) i will check it out and look closer, by specs and used hardware - they rly shouldn't be bad at all maybe they perform just bad or there are bad QC units hmmm
I am using it for the past 1 year or so, I bought straight from their AliExpress store. The sound is very musical: extended sub-bass, mids are really transparent and the treble has good extension without being too picky about well-recorded tracks. The only issues are: 6.3mm output (so you'll have to use an adapter with most headphones), the power switch is in the back (not a big deal for me, I never turn it off) and the output impedance is high @10 Ohm so sensitive IEMs will need am impedance adapter.

Can you be more specific about the impedance adapter? I didn't think there was any way to reduce the output impedance, I thought you could only increase output impedance with an adapter? My ONLY concern with this unit is its high output impedance causing it to not be very versatile. Do you think the following headphones (my current collection) will work well with it? HD6xx (should be fine at 300ohm), Monolith M1060 (shouldn't be an issue because planar??), and AKG K7xx (may be a problem as it doesnt fit the 1/8 impedance rule - dynamic 64ohm).
oh no, sabre dac again. Enjoy your sabre hump

Sabre DACs are bright in general. A lot of Chinese companies flooded the dac market with them.
Neither Superman can hear it people say...
Strangely the gold makes it look cheap.

I kinda agree. I would prefer no plate with just indicator lights like the x1s.
https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/yulong-audio-daart-canary.22524/reviews "Very transparent, flat and extremely detailed..." "This is the device that redefines the budget listening." It certainly seems to impress positively.
Wish there was a version with the latest chipset.
Looks very promising. I think I'm in. I wonder though, given that these are shipped direct from China: • What warranty recourse do we have in the US? Is there a US contact for repair or replacement? (or do we have to return ship to China?!) • What is the US warranty? • What is the likelihood of this being assembled with counterfeit parts? (I suppose this is a concern with any manufacturer these days foreign or domestic - i.e., is that a genuine ESS chipset?) • Given the price point and performance (based on the reviews so far) is this the bang/buck go-to vs sticking with a domestic player - e.g., Schiit Stack (US made, US warranty, etc) Or for $179 does one just roll the dice and if it bricks just toss it out and move on?

All good questions, IMO. Seems like most just roll the dice and don’t care :(

I bought a SMSL M3 from Massdrop that came with only Massdrop's 30 day warranty. About 4 months later it's stopped working. I contacted support and I'm S.O.L. It's basically a paperweight now. It's buyer beware with any product on here without a manufacturer's warranty.
Would this dac be better than a topping d30?
BIGGUY4x4
I believe the topping is actually better according to the specifications but at the level they're both at I think the difference is pretty minimal.
I have bought one from China. From my experience, this device works fine with K701, and works well with Fostex's T50RP(MK3) and T60RP.
Hmm, this thing checks all the boxes for me( optical and usb, xmos, class A, sabre 9018, in's for amp use and out's for dac out). Only negative is the output impedance...

Interesting... Thanks for your thoughts because I was thinking of getting this for use with hd 600's and some t50's I modded but I'm not so sure now.

Problably OK with the 600 @ 300ohm. This is a detail I’ll pay attention to when I buy my next amp.
I know what I’m asking the wife for Christmas. Reviews (Internet) are promising!

Sadly, this review says it won't pair well with my Hifiman 400i :(

Another review: https://soulsikreviews.com/2017/06/24/yulong-canary-dacamp-cleanest-ive-heard/ This one says neutral ('clean') with somewhat pronounced highs, while the other says dark and 'musical'. But they all say it's really good. The Cons, such as they, are seem to be minor and mechanical - volume imbalance at low settings and on/off in back.

How does this compete with the aune stack?
Nightf0xx
Seems like an X1S with the Class A amp of X7S. Looks to be a nice AIO device for the desk. I have the X1S/X7S stack. If someone sends me the Canary I’ll do a review.
lol looking in the comments hoping someone will tell us about it. All I see are questions .....
What's the warranty?
This compares to audio-gd nfb 11.28, Odac + O2 and schiit stack? How good is pairing it with the 6XX?

Someone needs to look up for that one.....
Why do people insist on leaving out the output impedance in the specs. This stuff matters so much!!
Does the knob control line-level output or just the headphone jack?
Michal
I found this on another website and the sadly, the output level is fixed.
Michal
No necessarily a bad thing for those who want to use this with their prefered headphone amp or amp.
Will it work with Android or iPad as an USB input?
