Why is it for a single speaker lol, these are obviously made for proper stereo setups.

SephHaleyHow is it 'obviously' made for proper stereo setups? What disqualifies these for surround sound applications? So you would consider me ignorant or stupid if I wanted to buy 3 or 5 or 7 to make a 3.0, 5.0, or 7.0 setup to use with an audio/video system?

gstupakI don’t know why you’re taking this as a personal insult, but while you could, Dali offers speakers specifically for those applications. There’s nothing that says you can’t use them for those purposes, but generally you will find bookshelves or floorstanders used as fronts

SephHaleyWell, you "lol" that these are being sold individually, so it stands to reason that you would lol at me for buying a single speaker. And I wondered what was so "obvious" that these are made for a stereo set up, this was an honest inquiry.
I was seriously looking into 3 of these for a front sound stage, but have decided against these since a review has noted that these distort at high SPLs.

gstupakGenerally for listening to music it’s better just to have 2 speakers (with subs if you want) because 99% of music is recorded in stereo. Now, you could use a center, but generally the soundstage and imaging is there even without it because higher end speakers actually have at least decent phase alignment for getting proper soundstage and imaging. How loud would you be listening?

SephHaleyNumber and type of speakers?..... I listen to audio as it is presented. If it is presented in stereo, then I listen in stereo. If it is presented in surround sound, then I listen in surround sound. As far as 'center speakers,' I like to use the exact same speaker model for the front three channels, most horizontal 'center speakers' do not sound identical to their vertical 'main speaker' counterparts.
Loudness?.... I often listen at near reference levels (volume knob turned up to near 0dB after calibrated with Audyssey). In my bigger living room system, music can be sustained above 100dB SPLs (at the listening position), the Chane speakers handle this effortlessly. If I bought three Dali 1s, they wouldn't be played at 100dB SPLs, but it would be close. I would probably stick with Chane A1 speakers for another smaller system since I know they can handle the SPLs.

gstupakHave you checked that SPL level with a proper SPL meter? That is a bit high, enough to damage hearing if listening for a decent amount of time.

SephHaleyMeasured with calibrated UMIK-1 mic with REW. I only listen at those high volumes for a few minutes at a time when certain music plays (like electronic music, I only like some of it and only when very loud). Sometimes it just "feels" better than it sounds. But for just a few minutes. AVR: Onkyo TX SR706 AMP: ATI AT1506 (using bridged for front three channels) MAIN SPEAKERS: Chane A5 SUBS: (1) custom sealed 15" + (2) custom 18" Fi IB ROOM SIZE: 18'x28'
Currently I am looking for two or three speakers for a smaller room. The Dali looked promising because of transparent clear sound, until I read that they distort at higher output, same problem I had with my previous JBL Studio S312s. As mentioned earlier, I'll probably stick with the Chane A1 or A2 since I know they have high output with little distortion.

gstupakOkay yeah that seems like you've got it pretty well figured out. The Chanes you have are no slouch either.
