How would you connect these straight to a computer is my question?

XiblesIf you really wanted to connect it straight to your computer you could, using an adapter from 3.5 mm to RCA. I would highly recommend having a dedicated DAC though, something simple like the JDS Labs ODAC or the Schiit Modi 2 etc.

agrigasThanks for the quick and accurate response. But my next question would be running it through a dac interfere with the tube sounding aspect of darkvoice?

XiblesSo the DAC takes your digital file and turns it into an analog signal. The darkvoice is an amp that increases the strength of that analog signal in order to power the drivers in the headphone. That amplification is where the tube-y sound comes in. If you run it straight out of your computer, your computer has a DAC and does the same thing, but just does a bad job of it. With a nicer amp, a dedicated DAC definitely makes a difference over what most laptops come with.

XiblesNo; digital to anslog conversion (via a DAC) is stil required regardless of tube vs. solid state amplification. This is an amp, not a DAC. A computer has a DAC, but it is not a good one. I use an Audioquest Dragonfly Red because it is portable and sounds quite good.

DiMoraThanks for the answer makes more sense. I was just worried A DAC was gonna eliminate the warm tube-y feeling of the darkvoice. I have two questions though. Should I run optical or USB through my DAC. I'm asking because I'm wondering if either have a advantage over the other in sound quality. My other question is that I bought the darkvoice and aswell the Aune X1s as my DAC for the darkvoice. In terms of connectivity from DAC to darkvoice I only see Left and Right RCA connectivity so that's what I'll have to run I guess? Thanks for reading if you do and sorry if my questions seem a little dumb as I'm pretty new to headphone audiophilia.

XiblesThe X1S into the Darkvoice is a fantastic combo. Plus you have a nice solid state amp when you want it. Only problem is the loss of desk real estate ;)

XiblesUSB or optical is fine to go from source to DAC; it doesn’t matter since it is digital. From DAC to DarkVoice you will with need 1/8” stereo male to dual male RCA or double male RCA depending on the DAC you choose. You can also use a DAC/AMP combo (Like Schiitt Audio makes - Jotunheim would be great) so you can use the Schitt DAC into the Darkvoice - or use the Schitt as a stand-alone DAC and amp for solid-state Power when driving hard-to-Drive headphones like some planars.

DiMoraThanks for the help I went with the Aune X1S anniversary edition since it was on massdrop for 200 and looks like a excellent DAC since it's heavy on bass and I quite enjoy that and the reviews for it are really good so seemed like a logical choice. And thanks for all your help.

HIFI778I‘d say that there is plenty of room to spare! At least enough for a Darkvoice, yeah?

mindhead1LOL nope I use it also for work. I am a share trader and use it to display many graphs at once. Also I use it as main display for movies as the other TV is too close to the bedroom. You get used to it and because 4k does not bother your eyes.

HIFI778Oh boy, I don’t know if I could cram a 55” TV in there. It does sound like a good idea though ;) This desk is 72x30” or 183x76cm. Its still fairly open as you can see, but I can see how you would be running low on space even with a colossal desk like yours.

mindhead1Was a good deal in ebay. A sony 55inch 8500 for just 1000aud. Could not be ignored. I had a good and only Sony 46inch full HD with gorilla glass but gave it to a good friend that needed it. 4k is a different story. ;-)

DiMoraI also just bought a Meridian Explorer2 DAC which works great with a computer. That gives you a nice DAC as well as the ability to decode MQA if you are a TIDAL user. I use Roon and Tidal, so it is perfect for me. Audioquest DragonFly is a great choice if you use an i-device as a source (iPhone or iPad) since the Meridian E2 cannot run off of an iPhone or iPad (but can off of a Mac computer or laptop).

XiblesI'm using the AMB Laboratories Gamma 2 DAC. It's a DIY though.
