Received my DarkVoice last week there original tubes make it sound just like any old transistor radio with a 9 V battery. The larger tube after three days burnt out the 6AS7, that's OK because I had plenty of NOS tubes on hand and I replace them. 6AS7 (Sylvania GB 6080 GOLD BRAND) and I replace the 6SN7 ( Sylvania GB-6SN7 WGT GOLD BRAND) but any good old tube will do RCA or TUNG -SOL. You have to realize and understand you bought the amp you didn't buy it for the tubes it came with .

KosqI'm not sure yet because I don't have enough time to swap out and test all the tube s in different combinations yet . Of the larger power tube I have 32 different tubes ranging from the 1940s through the 1960s And of the smaller tubes I have 27 different varieties from the 40s to the 60s All new old stock. This is Sylvanias you see in my picture where the first ones I picked up off top and threw them into replace the stock tubes . I've only swapped out a few tubes but since they're all brand-new I don't have the hours to allow them to burn in and do testing it'll probably be a slow process over a course of a year . Just for quick reference I have thrown in most of the tubes for testing with no burn in time that were recommended on the (Tube Rolling Thread Part Iand II ) never left any tubs in long enough to make a very clear and decisive decision so I just stuck with the ones that I first through in because it was such a big difference over the stock tubes . And then I don't pick myself as being qualified enough to actually recommend tubes other then I'm 100% sure anybody can disqualify the factory original tubes that came with the dark voice. If somebody's ears cannot hear the difference between the factory tubes and Good NOS tubes then it doesn't matter what they listening to, an AM radio would be good enough for them . I'm itching to break open the dark voice and start doing some of the hop up modification replacing some quality components to improve the sound. But when it comes to picking tubes and headphones it's up to your ears alone and not somebody else's to make the decision for you what is best. Headphones sound different when played on different amplifiers. It's finding that magic match between a particular set of headphones and a particular amplifier for your genre of music that hits the sweet spots for your ears. And as we get older and our ears age and we start to diminish or lose some of our tonal ability we might find that we have to artificially boost or pick a headphone, amplifier and tube combination that brings back the sweet spot to our ears but may be a little bit too strong for somebody else who has better hearing .

Soapman88All my new old stock (NOS) tubes are still working sounding great no microphonic no humming. Original cheap Chinese tubes that came with the dark voice died but they never sounded that great in the first place. For the people who cannot hear the difference between the Chinese tubes and higher quality tubes these people are very lucky they will save money because they do not have to buy new tubes. And remember you do not have to buy New old stock tubes (NOS) They are some good quality Chinese made manufacture tubes there’s also new Russian made tubes and also Polish made tubes from Poland and Japanese. they are some good quality Chinese made manufacture tubes there’s also new Russian made tubes and also Polish made tubes from Poland and Japanese. Do your research on the Internet and you will find them.

Soapman88Sounds like you need to seek some advice on repair and diagnosis. Do you know if it’s burning out the heating element? Unfortunately the shipping and the repair May cost more than the device Depending where you live

ThermalAlchemySo i got another 6080 in the mail. An old HP one and it seems to be working fine... only think i can think of is those tubes were on there last legs? Currently using a Amperex 6as7 with Staggerd black plate Dual side getters. Sounds pretty fantastic. Anways, thanks for the replies. Take care.
