I had a pair of these a few years back. They really made my feet stink after just a few hours. It was gross and basically inexplicable, since my feet don't normally stink with other socks. The antimicrobial properties of merino are a huge reason I wear only wool socks, since they prevent that problem. If I want cooler socks, I'll buy thinner merino socks.
Fortunately, DT traded them over for me, and I'm a loyal customer, but I won't buy these particular socks again.

joeyhuddlestonInteresting about the odor problem that you mentioned.
I have owned Coolmax products like socks, and never recall them having an odor problem.
E.I. Dupont de Nemours, (Dupont) Company invented, or discovered Coolmax Polyester way back in 1986, and they have refined it over the years.
Dupont has invented many products like Kevlar, Dynamite, Tyvek, Nylon, Dacron, Lycra, Silverstone for non-stick cooking, Stainmaster for carpet, and Imron Paint, just to name a few.
Dupont has a good track record to say the least.
They changed the name of their textile division, which manufactures Coolmax to Invista.
I had not heard about the odor problem before, except when recycled plastic, or fibers were used to make clothing.
According to Invista, their optional EcoMade technology adds a fiber to fabrics that is made from 97% recycled resources.
So I guess it depends upon the manufacturer of the socks, or apparel, and whether or not they use recycled fibers in combination with the Coolmax polyester.
I think that most manufacturers have learned how to get rid of that odor problem however by treating the recycled plastic with something like freshFX® technology from Invista, in order to provide long-lasting freshness and confidence.
I believe that the sock manufacturer Feetures, using recycled fibers, or plastics to make their lifetime guaranteed socks.
There are many manufacturers like Darn Tough that are licensed to use the Coolmax brand in various products, so I guess the odor issue is hit or miss.
I guess that the no questions asked, lifetime guaranty, is one of the main reasons to buy Darn Tough socks, as in your case you received new socks when you were not satisfied.

MsilverhammerWow, a lot of good info there. Thanks! I'll stay a Darn Tough customer too. They're just about the only socks I look for anymore, especially now that they're making running and cycling socks too.

joeyhuddlestonGlad I could help!
It would seem that the saying "Buy once, cry once," applies to the Darn Tough socks.
This was a good deal however, so not much to cry about at around $17..75 total per pair delivered for the boot height sock.

joeyhuddlestonThese are the ONLY socks that never develop any holes whilst using them.
They're almost hole proof and withstand serious sweat over many days, I still buy some more despite having some older pairs available.
I fear the day when this company stops making them.
