I wouldn't say they are much nicer than smartwool. I have both, both are well made and I wear both. I actually prefer smartwool's lifestyle socks. Darn Tough's lifestyle socks feel more like dress socks to me. They're pretty thin and feel fine, but I don't really love them. However, my absolute favorite everyday socks (so far) are Darn Tough's Work socks. They have some light padding and just feel much more substantial than these lifestyle socks. They're not much thicker than regular socks except in key areas where they have more padding. And they make my feet feel like they're being hugged, which feels really nice haha. That's the best way I can describe it. I've been buying 6 pairs of the work socks whenever they come up now. I also really like the darn tough hiking socks. I haven't tried their coolmax. I'd probably go with my icebreaker hiking socks instead if it was really cold, but I like the darn tough ones best overall (though I have not tried smartwool's PhD socks, which are their padded hiking ones).
TLDR: for everyday wear I like regular socks < Darn Tough Lifestyle < Smartwool Lifestyle < Darn Tough Work. These feel too thin and unsubstantial like dress socks (which is probably what they're going for). But the work socks are a nice color scheme and make my feet really happy when I put them on. These are just nicer than my regular dress socks.

Rexar5Just what I wanted to know, thanks. I'll hold out for the next work drop to purge my daily wear sock drawer.
Rexar5Thanks for the review, I found this very useful. I just received my 3 pack of the Darn Tough Lifestyle socks, so far, I'm really liking them; and I agree, they feel more like very nice dress socks. I like the thinness, they feel nice and cool, but I will pick up a pack of the 'work' socks for the reasons you mentioned.
