$40 socks? You're kidding? I've been on this planet 47 years and I'll be damned if I pay $40 for socks. If you can pay $40 for socks and not flinch, then donate $30 to a favorable charity.

CarhaulerI agree this is pricey for socks, but this is actually below the normal retail price.  I have discovered that there is a huge difference between standard run-of-the-mill socks and high-quality Merino wool socks.  I imagine that a pair of Darn Tough socks would outlast a half-dozen pair of whatever brand you wear.   I was skeptical at first, but my Darn Tough socks are the best socks I've ever owned and they are guaranteed for life, as well as being made in the USA. Cotton is rotten - Merino wool is definitely the way to go. I like my DT socks so much that I started donating my old socks to an area homeless shelter and will replace with DT socks as needed.  Of course, I'll always be on the lookout for special deals. I've been on this planet even longer than you have (64 years) and never had a sock that I felt I could wear multiple days without having sore or smelly feet. Mind you, I don't make a habit of that, but I just wanted to see if I could wear a pair more than a day.  Truthfully, these socks are the real deal. I hike all day and my feet don't get sore, sweaty or tired as with others. I thought my feet might get too hot hiking in the summer with  merino wool socks - nope! These socks are the only ones I need, whether I'm hiking, hanging around the house, out in the garage or at work. That being said, I won't join this drop, because I prefer the crew length or full-boot length sock, not these short ones.

CarhaulerI'm very serious. In fact, earlier today I ordered a couple of pairs (from another vendor) for my son and daughter, because I know that they would think they couldn't/shouldn't spend that kind of money for socks.  I also bought 2 more pairs for myself. With Darn Tough's lifetime guarantee, I could go the rest of my life without ever having to pay for another pair of socks. I wear them hiking, at work, out on the town, around the house with no shoes, even in the yard. They are very comfortable and don't appear to show much wear. But, if they ever do, I'll contact Darn Tough in Vermont and they'll replace them for free.
A very wise person once told me that you should spend the money to get the best quality merchandise for the following three things that touch the ground (or floor):       (1) tires for your vehicle - Do your research and purchase the best you can afford, based upon what is rated for your vehicle.      (2) your bed - You spend a great deal of time in bed. Take care of your body and give it proper support so that you are rested and refreshed.     (3) your shoes - Your feet need proper support in order to provide proper alignment for your body. Throw that alignment out of whack and you'll feel it in your knees, back, or elsewhere in your body. I extended her wisdom on #3 to include not just shoes, but the socks as well. In the past I have bought cheap and not-so-cheap socks. Sweating in cotton socks while on your feet all day on a concrete factory floor or hiking in the woods can yield achy feet with blisters, athlete's foot, and worse.
Again, I'm serious. I do not work for Massdrop or Darn Tough, nor do I have any reason or motive other than to share my experience and thoughts. I ordered 2 pairs of hiking boot DT socks from Massdrop last May for $29.99. Yeah, $15 for a pair of socks is a tidy sum of money. These socks have been worth every penny.
Other people in my hiking club are sold on merino wool socks, as well. Smartwool and Darn Tough are the 2 most popular brands.

Carhauler... and that's fine. Not worth it for you, I understand that. I'm pretty careful about what I order from Massdrop, as well as from any vendor. I've bought some good stuff from here, but I look at some of the other stuff and think ..."Really? I don't think I need a $100 toy top or a $400 pen or a $70 titanium thingamajig!" Hey, to each their own. If I were still skeptical, I wouldn't order, either - especially 3 pairs for $40.50. In that case, if I wanted to try them out, I'd just buy one pair from a brick-and-mortar store or order a single pair from another online vendor. I notice that Massdrop has a lot of drops for titanium products, many of them from Vargo.  I'm wondering if you have been satisfied with your Vargo purchases. While I am interested in cutting my pack weight, I find myself very reluctant to spend huge bucks in order to shave a few ounces from my carry. Shaving pounds with lighter gear is a no-brainer; for me shaving ounces can get to be expensive.

Carhauler$40 socks with a lifetime warranty. You get 3 pairs. So roughly $13 a pair. That's pretty dirt cheap for something made in the US. Also assume that you buy socks every year, and lets go on for 10 years. That means you save money if you spend more than $1.30 on socks every year. The expense is pretty easy to justify in my mind. They are tough, and if they fail you get new ones for free. They 100% do stay true to their words, experienced that first hand.
All of my socks are Darn Tough, with the exception of some smartwool socks I still have(like $20/pair) that haven't shit out on me yet. I will never have to buy socks again for my entire life because they are under lifetime warranty.

T.WarrenYes! My Darn Tough socks have been life changing. I originally bought some for hiking, but now I wear them everyday. I've also tried both the men's and women's socks and I find Darn Tough's women's socks fit me better. I wear men's size 9 shoes and the Darn Tough women's large fits me perfectly. So for anyone reading this, don't be afraid to try both the men's and women's versions! Your feet will love them all the same.

CarhaulerConsidering how often I used to get holes in my socks with traditional cotton ones, Darn Tough socks save me money in the long run. They never need to be replaced. I would much rather have socks that last forever and feel amazing than to continuously buy cheap socks which fall apart and dont fit as well.
I was also skeptical at first, but I did the research, and I bought a pair to test them out. After that I started replacing all my socks with DTS.
