I hear nothing but great things about Darn Tough socks. I've never tried them. They seem a little expensive and just how many models do they make? I mean if someone were to try one, which? I swear they make 43 different 'models'.
Are they really that much better than everyone else? Am I missing out? I like socks. I probably don't need any more..

user794519812Sorry, but I’m going to need more than that. Maybe I’ll find a pair at TJ Max or something. I can’t imagine they are justified with their price.

AntneeIf you ever find them at TJ Maxx, it will pairs where they have made some kind of mistake and they are not sold with the unconditional lifetime warranty. The price is for a pair of socks you never have to buy again.

PeterHYes, I'm aware of that, the warranty and irregularity. Shouldn't affect my first, second and third impression of them however.
My thinking: They are socks, not unlike most other socks. There isn't a huge material or workmanship difference in them vs others, they just have a "lifetime" warranty. You're prepaying by the exorbitant price. It's a business model, not an extra, extra outstanding product.
My thoughts may change, but at the price, not likely super soon.

AntneeTHink what you will. I have a couple pairs of wool socks by them that are easily my favorite socks ive ever owned.extremely warm, comfy, and durable. but it kinda sounds like ur the type of person that needs 10 double blind studies done on any product b4 taking the leap.

AntneeI think you are right, as long as you are comparing them to other wool-blend socks like smartwool. Smartwool's not going to be much cheaper though and it has no guarantee. If you find a good wool-blend socks that's considerably cheaper than darn tough, lmk. I see some cheaper socks on amazon, but they don't seem to have much wool in them. I just don't want to pay anywhere near $15-20 for a pair of socks that I am going to have to buy again in a few years.

AntneeI switched to wearing merino blend socks almost exclusively five or six years ago. I think Wigwam were the first I bought, at Dick's Sporting Goods or somewhere like that. Then Smartwool, which I preferred in several styles. Also tried some that I think were Campmor branded, in search of a little savings. But the pricier Smartwool (PhD maybe?) felt better and held better than others. Then I heard Darn Tough will outlast them all and end up being cheaper in the long run. So far that has proven true for me. I've worn out most of the others. After nearly two years wearing Darn Tough they seem to be holding up better than the others have. No, that isn't the same pair day in and day out. No, I don't believe they are indestructible and I do expect them to need replacement at some point. No idea how the replacement experience will actually go, but I don't expect it will be any worse than ordering more socks any other way. They have been very good to my feet, and that is what counts most to me because of how important my feet are. Business model or not, I'm very happy with them so far.

AntneeI've used them for backpacking and outdoorsy stuff for about 3 years now. They really are that good -- without a doubt. Indestructible. One day my son swiped a pair of my socks and wore them to an outing at Joshua Tree National Park. Then he decided that he didn't feel like putting on his boots. So the walked around the sand and dirt of the campsite wearing just the socks, for three or four hours. I was livid but decided to be patent with him. When we got home, the socks went into the washing machine. They emerged good as new. Literally good as new. I purchased another couple pair a year or two ago, and if you rummage through the sock drawer there's no way to tell which socks are three years old, and which ones are brand new. They all look exactly the same. Seriously. I'm sure they will wear out eventually, but at the rate things are going that'll be around 2118. These socks really are the greatest. I've replaced all of my hiking socks with Darn Toughs and am slowly replacing my running socks and the monochromatic business casual socks too.

AntneeSure, but socks 1/3rd of the price you arent guaranteed to have for life. If you don't find value in that, then they're probably not for you,but they're definitely not overpriced, and they *are* very good quality, probably the best quality you can find around. If you are on your feet a lot and go through socks quickly, these socks will be well worth it.

DeutschbagFor the record, I went the route of purchasing them at Marshall's/TJ Maxx. Those pairs are still going strong. So are all the rest.

AntneeI work on my feet. They get dirty, wet, and muddy, hot and cold. Sometimes all of that in the same day. These socks are the best I've ever owned. You are right about the massive amount of options. Something for every occasion. I've tried a bunch. I want to try more. They run super thick to really thin, short to tall. Even the thin ones cushion my feet better than any other brand I've tried. The same socks keep my feet warm in the chilly mornings and cool in the scorching afternoons. No exaggeration. My work days can start in the low 40s and be in the mid eighties 3 hours later. I used to change socks 2 to 3 times a day. Not since I found these. The first pair I bought was because they were on sale and the salesperson was super enthusiastic about them. Went back the next day and dropped $200 on various configurations. No regrets. Normally I'm super conservative with my spending, and I'm very aware that a single pair costs more than a 6 pack of the regular socks I used to buy. But those 6 socks wouldn't breath like these, heat AND cool like these, and they'd be shredded before the season was done. These are unequivocally worth the price.

Ice_PyroSame for me. I wore my DTS on the JMT hiking and they still feel brand new. I bought other Smart Wool socks after that and haven't worn them even 1/4 as much and had to throw them away due to holes in heel and sole areas. For me, well worth the money and comfort. My sister tried on a pair and won't give them back LOL.
