Mechanical Keyboard Sound Isn't That Simple
Figure 1: I couldn't think of a more literal way to represent this article if I tried... Looking back just a few years ago, there’s no doubt that the huge influx of people that joined the hobby at the peak of the COVID pandemic were drawn to keyboards by way of YouTube, TikTok, and other audio-visual content platforms. Even as the output from these content creators has waned in recent months, their collective impact and legacy on the keyboard hobby is rather firmly etched in the history books. As a result of all of their sound tests, build logs, and opinion videos, the message is clear to any new person joining the hobby: mechanical keyboards are all about the sound. Thock this, clack that. Bummer, because I found out that I really don't like the feel of the MX Blues as much as some of the other clone Blue switches on my other boards. Should have been patient and skipped it, and waited for what I really wanted.
I'm going for this one here. While I'm ambivalent about MX Clears, I do like them well enough if they are in a heavy keyboard, and after they've become smoother after some months of use.
The DAS keyboard are fairly solid and heavy, so I'm banking that the Clears in this keyboard will be something I like.
I have used the 4c with the Greetech switches. The ergonomics was decent but i couldn't get used to the switch overall - felt too scratchy. I think any MX switch would do this board justice. Shame Das took their customers for granted when this came out. I think you'll like this when the keys are smoother. Just have to grind the first few months out.
I would ideally like to use my greens at work, but i'll probably get thrown out due to the noise. My Browns are just gathering dust. Only thing i have to learn is to type without bottoming out. I have that bad habit of banging the keys in. Old club hands.
