VideopunksDid you miss the part where you weren't the only one who ordered this set or does the world revolve around you? They're working on it. Imagine this, they have a set number of employees in their warehouse and they're picking, placing and shipping orders until they get through them. Maybe, just maybe- yours hasn't been shipped yet!
No no no, let's forget that. They probably lost your order and forgot about you! Better post on this discussion thread instead of having patience or doing the logical thing of opening a ticket.

schoolbus We were also told 5 days ago all units would be shipped on Monday, 9/11. No no no, let's forget that. Let's also forget that this drop is delayed already by 3 months. It's got nothing to do with the expectation that the world revolves around any individual in this drop and has everything to do with the fact that they're constantly missing their OWN deadlines. They committed to a 9/29 ship date after notifying us of the delay and asking us to opt back in. Then they moved up their own date to 9/11 in case you missed that part! You'll have to excuse me for not having much patience with them anymore.

schoolbusIt's more than one person. The communication on this drop has been seriouly lacking. Them missing deadlines is becoming normal. They were mailed three weeks ago. Thats about 2 weeks to sort and ship. Also they said everything would be shipped out, not they would start. This coming from someone that got a notification 5 days ago.

clicky_clackySounds like you made the mistake of questioning your own judgment about Massdrop. I used to like this community but I realized that there are far, far too many falsely entitled people who literally act and behave like if they don't get their pretty pieces of plastic immediately that heads need to roll.
You can fault Massdrop on a lot of things but they don't physically manufacture or produce SA keycaps- 90% of the blame on the delays for this drop are with SP and their piss poor manufacturing planning. That is a widely known and accepted fact.
Ultimately, you should've never assumed 9/11 and stuck with 9/29- y'know... curb your expectations to avoid the tears. Or don't, and live your life constantly angry over your constant lust for keycaps.

schoolbusIn my view, MassDrop could definitely do a better job of managing expectations. The sense of entitlement we see is perhaps a byproduct of MassDrop's reluctance to make it clear that they simply can't operate at the speed of Amazon. Nor do they have any control over the manufacturing challenges of their source vendors. But be assured that MassDrop is working hard to improve their sourcing and increase the control they have over such issues. Unfortunately, when it comes to high-profile, double-shot spherical keycaps, there is still really only one manufacturer to turn to, and we all have to (severely) temper our expectations if we want to maintain our sanity (I ordered my Round 6 Honeywell keycaps in mid-2015 and I'm still waiting for them to get through production...Dasher/Dancer got done in record time by comparison).
On the upside, Dasher/Dancer is on its way to everyone. That is true even if there aren't tracking numbers to prove it (to everyone's satisfaction) just yet. These beautiful keycaps will last nearly a life-time, and years from now nobody will remember that they had to wait a few extra days/weeks/months to get them. They'll be too busy typing on their exquisite keyboards!

schoolbusI was already aware of the SA delay from SP. I wasn't concerned about the initial delay. I can absolutely blame MD for the delays since the communicated 9/11 ship date. Why the hell would I assume 9/29 when @bradr literally said 9/11. That's the dumbest logic ever. Get over yourself, dude. Thinking you're all high and mighty because you think you have the patience of a saint and constantly defend a company with less than optimal business operations (even admitted by their own employees). The reality is this is a business. I expect their end of this business transaction to be held up. So yes, you bet your sweet ass I'm entitled to the product I ordered. I handed over a lot of money to them back in December (and also in the Planck drop, which I'm still waiting on). Almost $500 between the two of those drops. You can call it entitlement all you want. In reality, it's shitty business on MD's part. Heaven forbid a consumer expect the retailer to hold up to when they say they're going to ship a product. You can think I'm asking for heads to roll when I didn't get "pretty pieces of plastic immediately". The words Massdrop and immediately do not go together. The original ship date was late June. I think everyone has been pretty patient considering we're 3 months late. I'm not asking for heads to roll. I'm asking for communication. When you tell me a date and that date passes, tell me why.
Jesus H Christ. You make me feel like I'm on fucking crazy pills. You got your shipping notification. Why do you care what anyone else has to say on the matter?
Edit: I'm not angry. You an infer that if you want, but I'm not. I live a busy life. Keycaps are but a tiny fraction of it. I'll get them when I get them, but it's my right as someone who's given them a lot of cash to share my feelings on things just as you have. We can agree to disagree.

TheNestI wouldn't worry too much about schoolbus. People like that usually act in that manner when they themselves feel entitled. Its all a circle jerk really in the end.

clicky_clackyTo be fair, if SP didn't require payment up front to secure a production slot nine months down the line, your money wouldn't have been extracted from you so long ago. That's a very uncomfortable situation MassDrop is put into, and they realize it. They don't like it any more than you or I do. It would be more fair to steer your anger towards SP for taking your money so early and violating your expectations with delays, since none of that is under MassDrop's control.
As for the 9/29 vs. 9/11 thing, we have to look at it this way: MassDrop picked a date with a LOT of wiggle room (9/29) because the penalties levied by the FTC if they didn't meet that deadline would have been severe. There was always every hope that delivery would occur much earlier than that, though how much earlier was simply impossible to determine with perfect accuracy. However, once it was clear that the keycaps were on their way to MassDrop, they were able to offer a more optimistic date (9/11) in an effort to give everyone some good news to chew on.
But for any given date offered, you have to add a few days of variability simply because there's no such thing as MassDrop Prime shipping.

JohnRCooperI'm not angry. Promise. I spend a lot of time dealing with client delivery dates, scopes, planning, etc. I can tell you if a date is communicated to a client and that date is missed more than once, the client isn't thrilled no matter the reason. It's not any different here. Sounds like MD is the one that needs to get better at their own delivery planning rather than expecting us to add a few days of variability to a third ship date. Come on, no one is expecting Amazon turnaround times. That comparison is utterly silly. I'm not asking for my order to be here at my doorstep. I am asking for a tracking number or communication on when I can expect it. Heck, it's past close of business on 9/12 in NJ and still no tracking number. I am completely okay expecting delays, but when the drop is so near to its completion and someone tells me "orders are being prepared to ship out on 9/11" 5 days before 9/11, I pretty much expect that date to be hit barring some natural disaster.
In the end, I'm still getting the caps (well, hopefully) earlier than I expected (early October). I'm just saying from a communication perspective, they could really modify some things to keep from getting some of the backlash they routinely get.

clicky_clackyI dont think they understand the main problem is communication. Not the fact that we dont have our pretty pieces of plastic within Amazon shipping times.

TheNestYep, you nailed it in a nice, much more concise way. I've said my two cents. Looks like I'll be getting these caps and two Plancks about the same time. Merry early Christmas to me!
Have a good one, all!

JohnRCooperI can't speak for others, but my frustration comes from two places:
1) MD controls all communication around this, and it's been spotty at best (transaction statuses not being updated, lack of status updates to the thread) and incorrect at worst (The comment above of "I wanted to share a quick (and overdue) update on the Dasher & Dancer drop. All planned units have reached our warehouse and are being prepared to ship out this Monday (the 11th).")
2) Handling of the opt-out/opt-in was very disconcerting as it felt like we would be dropped from this drop -- My own submission to the google doc did not reflect any updates to the transaction status for 5 days, and only after opening a ticket with MD support did this get resolved (that was a pretty friction free experience, actually). I was told that this process was manual, and I lost confidence a bit there -- confidence that my order wouldn't get lost in the paperwork shuffle. This was underscored by the fact that the miscommunication around the 11th date made me worry that perhaps my order was just lost -- something that I wouldn't have assumed a year ago, but now I feel could be a very real end to this whole thing.
I really appreciate you stepping in to help shed perspective and empathy on this situation, but I don't believe that anyone's upset (in this recent thread) with SP -- we're upset with the recent miscommunication.

TheNestYanbo has been on vacation these past two weeks, otherwise there surely would have been more timely communication during the sorting/packing/shipping portion of this drop. The timing of his vacation is just bad luck.
As to why nobody was reassigned to his duties while he was gone is anybody's guess. Maybe MassDrop underestimated the intense scrutiny the shipping window would come under during Yanbo's absence.

petermblairI know how you feel. Whenever I order from China I am in constant fear that my order will get lost somewhere along the way. When it takes three weeks to get anything from there, you can't help but fear the worst as the days tick off and nothing has arrived. I guess I'm willing to give MassDrop a little more of my faith with regard to issues like losing my order or sending it to the wrong place, and that helps ease my fears considerably there.
Now, the whole opt-in thing was a narrowly averted disaster, IMO. I think we can all rest comfortably knowing MassDrop won't ever do that again!

petermblairI had to open a ticket as well to ensure my order wasn't going to be dropped. It left a kind of skepticism as to if I was actually going to get my order or not. Especially after reading about what happened with the Carbon order.
