I just got my Dekoni Blue yesterday and only tried on my iPhone 6s, because I didn't brought my laptop back yesterday. But hopefully I can do some serious listening tonight with SDAC + Magni 3.
I bought Dekoni Blue because I really want to try the sound of T50RP and the Blue looked pretty, but after listened to a few pop songs with them, I found I didn't like the sound with the hybrid pads. It felt kind of muffled, rough and the soundstage was too small. But since there were two pairs of earpads, I tried the velvet pads and it sounded better, it evened the rough vocal and made the sound opened up a bit, but I wasn't satisfied still.
I have a pair of TH-X00 and a pair of lambskin pads, so I tried more pads swapping. The original TH-X00 pads made the sound smoother, more vocal-focused but more muffled, and the soundstage was horrible, so I threw those away quickly. Then, the lambskin pads, they made everything felt great: smooth sound and open soundstage. That's the sound I want!
So I recommend people with lambskin earpads to give it a try with Dekoni Blue, I think my pads are ZMF Ori? Can't remember now. But if the bad original sound was because I was using the wrong source: iPhone 6s, I'm sorry. I'll try to update my review with better equipment, it I don't get hooked on games tonight.
UPDATE:
Yes, you definitely need an amp to power Blue up! It sounds great with Magni 3! The original hybrid pads are great and the velvet ones are good too. Lambskin pads is ok-ish, but they bring too much bass, and the original TH-X00 pads sound weild to me.
Sorry for misjudging the headphone using the wrong source. It's a great headphone when it comes with poweeeeer!

Ti_LeoWe definitely recommend you use a source with a decent amount of power, otherwise, the Planar Driver will not function to it's full potential. it's a totally different beast with a decent source! As for the pads, kudos to you for finding the sound you want!

tdkocenYes, you are absolutely right, I didn't know insufficient could affect the sound so much. Now it sounds really good using an amp. And, the original pads came with the headphone are the best, wonderful choices! Sorry I did the review prematurely.

Ti_LeoSo far, the T50RP series (and the Blue) have been the most instructive to me about the benefits of good amping, and having a better amp enhances the rest of your collection too! As you saw, it’s not just about enough volume...

Ti_LeoYou hit the major immediate need of the T50RP straight on the head. The stock "pancake" pads are pathetic, bud they present a pretty substantial lower bass. Just swapping pads that you could reasonably wear for extended listening changes the base a LARGE amount. I tried 4 different sets of pads and wound up with the Dekoni Platinum Sheepskins. (I haven't tried the ZMF angled pads that Mod House offers, but I hear they may be the best.) It would be worth trying hard to find the correct pads for your tastes, and then find a complementary amp. Please note that a higher power amp not only makes the music louder, but can change the sound of a planars considerably. In the T50RP family, it can get rid of "veil" and "darkness" to a large degree. In my case, the mods and conversion to balanced has provided some additional detail and timbre to the mid to low bass.
