EDIT: Don't try to use a balanced cable with these headphones or you will brick your amp, like me :) This might be a silly question, is there a balanced cable for this headphone? Is that even possible when the jack is only on one side?

cwelton17Yes but it has to have a balanced plug in it like the t60rp. I don't think these have one

ajacknwoDamn I am just seeing this comment for the first time. I bricked my THX 989 amp a couple weeks ago because I didn't do my homework.

cwelton17More people should read your comment. Single ended connections can sound great and be super powerful, but using a “simple adapter” from XLR to SE essentially is shorting the circuit before it even reaches the headphone. If your THX 789 has a fuse inside, it might be fixable? But yeah, NEVER use a balanced adapter on a single ended cable. EDIT: You CAN use a single-ended adapter on a balanced cable though. The HD 800 S actually comes stock with both its cables with a balanced wire configuration inside, except one is terminated in XLR-4 balanced and the other in a 1/4” TRS Single Ended plug.

EvshrugI hope more people do so they avoid the same heartbreak I suffered haha No one has responded to my comments about fixing the THX amp on massdrop, I'll have to reach out to THX directly if they help out. I just haven't gotten around to it.

cwelton17The people at THX are super smart. If they don’t have a fix, then nobody will and it will sadly just be time to get a new amp.
