So i just got my 6xx in the mail and i'm pretty dissapointed by the bass. Which pad will help increase bass?

HispanicPanicIf I were to guess it would be Sheepskin, Fenestrated Sheepskin, or the Hybrids. The Velour will most likely have very little effect on the bass.

sykeYour post is both hypocritical and elitist. As an audiophile concerned with accurate reproduction of sound across the entire audible spectrum, if a recording contains low frequencies that a headphone just cannot duplicate, it can hardly be considered a very good headphone now can it? How i wonder what you would say about a headphone that did the same thing at the opposite end of the spectrum..... But that's ok. It's audiophile grade.

HispanicPanicwhat amp are you running? have you tried tubes? The 600 series is not overly an bass heavy headphone. They are fairly balanced with the 650 and 6xx heavy more bass. If you want a bass heavy headphone maybe try a closed beyer like a dt1990pro or fostex t50rp mk3. But firstly give a tube a try if you haven't already.

banzaiI've been interested in tubes but haven't gone down that route yet as i feel it might be a can of worms. I'm currently running a Schiit Magni2/Modi2 combo. I've been burning in the headphones on a Kendrick Lamar pandora station, and it seems that the bass opened up a TOUCH more. The clarity and detail also opened up SLIGHTLY, but these headphones are still nowhere near anything else i've tried. I guess i should also mention that so far i'm VERY disappointed in these headphones. There isn't a single thing they do that is better than anything else i have at 1/4 the price. Soundstage is poop. Clarity and detail is worse than my bose workout headphones, doesn't reproduce bass frequencies at all in common genres outside of classical/acoustic. The only plus they have is they are more open than my etymonic PT4's, though they can't match the detail and crispness of higher frequencies. My 558's win on openness and soundstage all day long. Perhaps i need more burn in? Currently at ~20 hrs of burn in.

I put on KL because I wanted to burn in the headphones with low frequencies. I didn't know music choice disqualified me from having an opinion. That said, Billie ellish and and London grammar just aren't quite as enjoyable on these cans. Detail is lacking and warmth just isn't there in the vocals.
Maybe there is something wrong with my 6xx, or maybe just perhaps, your standard grade audiophile whom I've been listening to just doesn't know WTF they're talking about. I really hope a few dozen more hrs of burn in makes a difference because I really wanted these phones to be everything I read about.

See that's why you're dumb. The 6XX's have fine bass, I listen to 21 Savage/Metro/Future/Travis Scott with them all the time. Those people when they produce, will always up the bass on their end. You don't need headphones further emphasizing bass on already bass heavy songs. If a song you listen to doesn't have enough bass, it's either because the artist intended or they made the music with the expectation their listeners would be using bass junkie garbage. Take Metroboomin for example, in the song X feat Future, it's got that classic deep kick, but due to 21 Savages more monotone(some would say mundane) voice it's a bad idea to up base because you'd lose the clarity in his voice. Listen to the small injections of words that are "far away"(best I can describe it, basically when he whispers "21"). You would NEVER hear that with cheap bass heavy headphones, notice how directed those sounds are too, Metro does an amazing job positioning the audio, again you'd barely be able to tell if the bass was strong.
I've read some of your other comments, maybe they started making the 6XX worse over time. I have the #134 pair from the first drop and with a S-Stack as well and it's amazing.

HispanicPanicNo pad will increase the bass noticeably without adding tons of distortion, which would ruin a great headphone. On the other hand, a better suited amp would give your 6XX much deeper and impactful bass. These headphones have a huge impedance spike on the mid-bass, around 100Hz, that usually reaches more than 500ohm. Most low and mid priced solid state amps won't deliver near enought power under such impedance, so if you want to improve the bass response a OTL amp (or high-grade solid state amp) would be your best bet. I suggest you to check out the DarkVoice 336se, or Little Dot MKII if you're on a tight budget.

HispanicPanicI completely disagree with you. The 6XX dissapointed me initially, coming from ATH-M50x I felt they lacked sub-bass impact, treble sparkle, and soundstage was not so great. But after more and more listening, I can tell you the 6XX are THE best headphones I've ever heard.
- They have an almost perfect frequency response, the "veil" in fact it's not a big deal and makes the sound much less fatiguing, enabling LOONG pleasurable listening sessions (not like the M50x, that gave me headaches after an hour or so). I said "almost" because some people might lack some sub-bass, but nothing a tube amp can't fix. And there's this warmth that's sooo engaging, making everything sound more natural... It's just a lovely sound, once you get used to it you won't like cold headphones anymore.
- Soundstage is just right, not artificially large like some AKG, not too close like most closed-back headphones.
- Clarity is just great, no other headphones in this price range will be better than the 6XX on this.
- Detail is a perfect compromise, you can spot minor mastering faults but they won't slap you in the face, so they're just right for low-quality recordings while better quality ones will be even more enjoyable.
- Comfort is TOTL, no compromises: stock pads are great, headband feels great, they're so light you literally forget you're wearing them.
- Build quality & aesthetics, for me, are just right. Nothing fancy, just headphones, they're neither rock solid nor weak, just ok. They don't look too fancy, if you're more into aesthetics maybe you dislike them, but I'd personally wear rotten potatoes on my ears if they sounded better than this.

klnglimOr get three HD6XX for the same price hahaha. No, seriously, for under $200 a good deep bass heavy headphone are the Audio Technica ATH-M50x, specially if you don't have any amp. If you have an amp, maybe some Beyer DT770 250ohm would have better SQ with good bass, I can't tell because I never heard those. But the M50x are great fun v-shaped sounding, not hifi, but fun.

Eli35I really appreciate everyone's responses on this. I wish i had come across some of these posts last week cause i decided to sell the headphones. I had a feeling things might open up more as burn-in increased, but wasn't sure i was willing to spend the next month or two sludging through the current output to get there. I really got down to thinking about this, and i couldn't think of a single thing that these 6xx's did better than my etymonic PT4's (other than soundstage), so i decided to get rid of them. Maybe Sennheiser just isn't for me? My current go-to's are now the 1more quad's, and im back to the HD558's for PC duty. In retrospect, the 558's sound much better than they did when i first got them and at the moment i really do enjoy them. I'm still not positive selling the 6xx's were the best choice. Ideally, i'd love to discover something with the clarity and detail of the Etymonic pt-4's with a booming soundstage and an upgraded bass. Still on the search for them. My next experiment i think will be the monlith m1060

HispanicPanicDon't worry too much, sound is subjective, probably you don't like this kind of sound. A lot of people dislike the HD600-family because of the laid-back sound, the "veil" (after a lot of listening on them, I don't think there's a veil, but they don't have the artificial brightness that some others have), the not-too-great soundstage (it's not bad, but not mind-blowing like some AKG models), the lack of sub-bass (quite common in open-back headphones)... They're not for everyone, no headphone is "good" for everyone.
Monolith M1060 look great, I'd suggest you to get into the HE4XX but the drop finished SO FAST (maybe because they're awesome price-performance, I hope they are because I got my pair). Some other completely different options: - IEM: Tin Audio T2 (balanced sound signature, $50, awesome for the price), TFZ Exclusive 5 (v-shaped sound, $90, best bass I've ever heard), KZ SZ6 (quad hybrid driver, $40, one of the best price-performance headphones). - over-ear: superlux HD668b (open back, $36, similar to AKG K240), Takstar PRO82 (closed back, $60, highly recommended on some communities as a budget all-rounder), Fostex T50RP mkIII (semi-closed back, $160, need mods to sound good but after modding they're great).
There's a lot of great options in the sub-$100 price range, if you don't wanna go big and spend $300 on the M1060. dekoniGot the full sheepskin today for my HD6XX and loving the additional warmth. I can’t say high frequencies are negatively affected vs stock pads.
Noticeable increase in clamping force due to additional volume but the memory foam is softer than stock foam. Overall, I think it’s more comfortable.
Appearance wise, there’s no comparison.. 6XX should’ve shipped with this. Build quality is great and smells quite nice too :)

In summary it’s a keeper for me.. this + 6XX + Schiit Stack will keep me entertained for many years to come.

HispanicPanicI put the hybrids on my AKG 7xx and it helped the bass just enough. I’ve had them on over a year without any issues.
